BYD is preparing to make a decisive move into the UK light commercial vehicle market with the unveiling of the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van at the 2026 CV Show, hosted at the NEC Birmingham from 21st to 23rd April 2026. Known globally for its rapid expansion in new energy vehicles, BYD is now extending its electric ecosystem beyond passenger cars and into the demanding world of commercial logistics.
The DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van is rooted in a familiar foundation, taking the award-winning DOLPHIN hatchback and reengineering it for utility. The transformation is focused and functional. The rear seating is removed and replaced with a solid bulkhead and a redesigned load floor, converting the compact EV into a dedicated cargo solution without compromising its city-friendly footprint. The result is more than 1,000 litres of loadspace, designed to meet the practical demands of urban delivery and fleet operations.
Efficiency remains one of its defining strengths. The model offers a combined WLTP range of 265 miles, with city-focused driving extending that potential up to 347 miles under WLTP conditions. This positions the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van as a strong contender for last-mile logistics, where range confidence, operational uptime and low emissions are increasingly non-negotiable.
The timing of its arrival reflects BYD’s broader momentum in the UK market. In Q1 2026, the brand recorded 21,337 registrations, achieving a 3.98% market share and reinforcing its position as one of the fastest-growing players in the new energy vehicle segment. The step into LCVs is a natural extension of that trajectory, responding to rising fleet demand for scalable, zero-emission transport solutions.
At the CV Show, the vehicle will be displayed on stand 5C40, with Mediafleet showcasing the model alongside BYD corporate fleet representatives. The exhibition unit features a lightweight racking system developed by Modul-System, highlighting how adaptable the platform is for commercial use cases ranging from parcel delivery to specialist mobile services.
The CV Show itself continues to evolve into a key platform for decarbonisation and transport innovation, with a strong emphasis on digital transformation and net zero logistics. Within that context, BYD’s DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van is more than a new product introduction. It signals a shift in how compact electric platforms are being repurposed for real-world commercial applications, where efficiency and adaptability are becoming just as important as outright performance.
Full specifications and pricing will be revealed at a later stage, but the direction is already clear. BYD is not just entering the LCV market. It is helping redefine what a small commercial vehicle can be in an electrified economy.
