BYD’s new flagship electric SUV, the SEALION 7, has achieved a top-tier five-star safety rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP testing—an accolade that cements the vehicle’s credentials as one of the safest all-electric family cars on the market today.
Launched in Europe in late 2024, the SEALION 7 impressed the independent crash-testing authority across all four key categories of assessment: Adult Occupant protection, Child Occupant protection, Vulnerable Road Users protection, and Safety Assist. The results are especially noteworthy given the increasingly stringent nature of Euro NCAP evaluations in recent years.
At the core of the SEALION 7’s safety performance is BYD’s advanced Cell-to-Body construction, a design that integrates the battery pack into the vehicle structure for improved rigidity and crash energy distribution. Complemented by the brand’s proprietary Blade Battery technology, this structural innovation not only enhances overall crashworthiness but also contributes to a lower centre of gravity—critical for stability and control.
In terms of Adult Occupant protection, the SEALION 7 achieved a robust 87% score, with Euro NCAP reporting strong whiplash mitigation in rear-end collisions and excellent resilience in both side barrier and severe side pole impact scenarios.
However, it is in the realm of Child Occupant protection that the SEALION 7 truly distinguishes itself. Scoring an exceptional 93%, the SUV matches the highest percentage ever recorded in this category over the past nine years. During frontal offset and side barrier impact tests, the SEALION 7 earned full marks for shielding all vital body regions of both six-year-old and ten-year-old dummies. The vehicle is also equipped with a direct child-presence detection system—an increasingly important feature in family vehicles—that alerts the driver if a child or infant is inadvertently left inside.

The SUV’s active safety systems further underscore its credentials. With a Safety Assist rating of 79%, the SEALION 7 was praised for its suite of driver-support technologies, including a responsive autonomous emergency braking system that effectively identifies and reacts to both pedestrians and motorcyclists. Lane-support and speed-assistance systems also received positive mentions, reflecting BYD’s commitment to comprehensive road safety.
Notably, the SEALION 7 is offered with multiple battery capacities and powertrain configurations, including a variant featuring the world’s fastest mass-produced electric motor, spinning at an astonishing 23,000rpm. This performance edge is seamlessly integrated into a package that prioritises family safety and daily usability.
The five-star rating adds to BYD’s growing list of safety accolades, aligning the SEALION 7 with the brand’s other highly rated models in Europe—including the DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL U, SEAL U DM-i, SEAL, and TANG.
As the brand continues to expand its footprint across global markets, the SEALION 7 serves as a compelling testament to BYD’s engineering excellence—where cutting-edge electric mobility meets top-tier occupant protection.
