Global NEV pioneer sets new benchmark as luxury flagship marks a turning point in electrified mobility
BYD, the global powerhouse in new energy vehicles (NEVs), has officially become the first automaker in the world to produce 13 million NEVs—a remarkable achievement underscoring its dominance in the electrification era. The landmark vehicle, a YANGWANG U7, rolled off the production line on 21 July 2025, cementing both a symbolic and technological milestone in the annals of global automotive history.
This landmark not only affirms BYD’s unwavering commitment to sustainable mobility, but also reflects the accelerating consumer demand for electrified transport. The milestone was achieved just eight months after the brand crossed the 10-million NEV threshold—a dramatic leap considering it took 13 years to produce the first million.
Electrification at Scale
In the first half of 2025 alone, BYD sold 2,145,954 NEVs globally, reinforcing its title as the world’s top-selling NEV brand. This impressive figure includes 470,086 vehicles sold in overseas markets—a staggering 128.5% increase year-on-year. This international surge signals growing global appetite for BYD’s electrified product portfolio, spanning everything from city runabouts to cutting-edge luxury flagships.
YANGWANG U7: Luxury, Redefined
Spearheading this historic moment is the YANGWANG U7—BYD’s ultra-luxury sedan that exemplifies innovation and engineering prowess. Now being delivered to customers across China, the U7 is equipped with several next-generation technologies including:
- DiSus-Z (Yunnian-Z) Intelligent Body Control System: A breakthrough in ride comfort and vehicle stability.
- e⁴ Platform: Enabling precise torque vectoring, delivering superior agility and traction.
- Horizontally Opposed Motor Architecture: Enhancing dynamic balance and performance.
- Rear-Wheel Steering: Offering enhanced manoeuvrability, especially at low speeds and in tight urban environments.
This arsenal of advanced features translates into a luxurious driving experience that balances poise, power, and safety with unprecedented precision. As the flagship of BYD’s luxury sub-brand, the U7 not only celebrates engineering excellence but also sets a new benchmark for electric mobility in the premium segment.

YANGWANG’s Rising Trajectory
YANGWANG, launched as BYD’s high-end sub-brand, continues to gain momentum. With cumulative deliveries surpassing 10,000 units, it has quickly carved a niche in the luxury EV landscape. Strong media attention and enthusiastic customer reception affirm its rising stature in an increasingly competitive segment.
Innovation at the Core
Founded in 1995, BYD has maintained an unwavering focus on end-to-end innovation, becoming the only NEV manufacturer to independently develop its own batteries, semiconductors, motors, controllers, and powertrains. Its in-house ecosystem enables unmatched integration and vertical alignment—a critical advantage in the rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape.
The company’s reputation for innovation was further solidified with the introduction of the Blade Battery in 2020. Featuring a flat, cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate (LFP) design, the Blade Battery has redefined safety standards in the industry. It passed rigorous puncture tests simulating severe traffic accidents, demonstrating thermal stability with no smoke or flames, and tolerating over 5,000 charge/discharge cycles. Its superior preheating and cooling capabilities have also positioned it as one of the most robust and durable batteries on the market.
Driving the Future, Globally
BYD’s historic 13-million milestone is more than a production statistic—it represents the realisation of a long-term vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future. With a global workforce of over 120,000 engineers and technicians, and more than 40 patent applications filed every working day, BYD’s forward momentum shows no signs of slowing.
As the YANGWANG U7 makes its way into the hands of customers, it carries with it the weight of history—and the promise of a future shaped by cutting-edge innovation, electrified luxury, and global sustainability.
