The BYD DOLPHIN SURF, reigning World Urban Car of the Year, has achieved a remarkable five-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP tests, cementing its position as a leader in the compact electric vehicle segment. Since going on sale across Europe in the spring, the DOLPHIN SURF has already turned heads with its accessible pricing, cutting-edge technology, and urban-friendly design. Now, with top marks in Europe’s most stringent safety evaluations, it has proven that affordability and uncompromising safety can go hand in hand.
Euro NCAP’s comprehensive assessment covers four critical areas: Adult Occupant protection, Child Occupant protection, Vulnerable Road Users, and Safety Assist systems. The DOLPHIN SURF excelled across all categories, reflecting BYD’s holistic approach to vehicle technology and safety.
In the Adult Occupant protection tests, the DOLPHIN SURF earned 82%, demonstrating excellent crash resilience in both side-barrier impacts and more severe side-pole collisions. Child Occupant protection was even more impressive, with the vehicle achieving 86%, reinforcing the car’s family-friendly credentials.
Safety for other road users is equally strong. The DOLPHIN SURF’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system responded effectively to cyclists and showed good performance in interactions with motorcyclists, resulting in a 76% score in the Vulnerable Road Users category. Meanwhile, the Safety Assist evaluation highlighted the DOLPHIN SURF’s advanced driver-monitoring system, lane-departure support, and the reliability of its AEB system in detecting other vehicles, culminating in a 77% rating.

The DOLPHIN SURF’s accolade marks BYD’s eighth five-star Euro NCAP rating since entering the European passenger-car market in 2022. Earlier vehicles such as the DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL, SEAL U, SEAL U DM-i, TANG, and SEALION 7 have all received top ratings, with the SEALION 7 achieving a record-high score for Child Occupant protection.
