BYD has further broadened the appeal of its award-winning BYD DOLPHIN with the introduction of two new trims, Active and Boost, now available to UK buyers. As the latest addition to the popular DOLPHIN lineup, these new variants offer a blend of practicality, efficiency, and affordability, ensuring that high-tech electric mobility is within reach for a wider audience.
Affordable Electric Mobility
Starting at £26,195 OTR for the Active trim and £27,165 OTR for the Boost, the BYD DOLPHIN is positioned as a cost-effective solution in the competitive C-segment hatchback market. This pricing strategy aims to democratize access to cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) technology, making it an attractive option for environmentally conscious consumers who seek both value and innovation.
Advanced Battery Technology
The BYD DOLPHIN’s technological prowess is underpinned by its advanced battery technology. Both the Active and Boost trims are equipped with a 44.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, which offers a range of 211 miles for the Active trim and 193 miles for the Boost trim, based on the WLTP cycle. This battery is renowned for its safety and thermal stability, having passed the rigorous Nail Penetration Test, which further underscores its durability and performance.
The integration of the Blade Battery with BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 enhances system efficiency and vehicle intelligence. This platform supports a highly efficient 8-in-1 electric powertrain, which combines essential components such as the Vehicle Control Unit and Battery Management System to achieve an impressive 89% efficiency rate.

Performance and Charging
The DOLPHIN Active trim features a 70 kW (95 ps) motor, while the Boost trim boasts a more powerful 130 kW (176 ps) motor. Both trims can be charged by AC power up to 7 kW or by DC power up to 65 kW. A 100 kW DC charger can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum convenience.
Innovative Features and Design
The BYD DOLPHIN stands out with its distinctive “Ocean Aesthetics” design, inspired by the playful and intelligent dolphin. This design ethos not only adds to the vehicle’s visual appeal but also integrates practical features that enhance comfort and functionality. The DOLPHIN measures 4,290 mm in length with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, offering ample interior space and a spacious boot capacity of 345 litres, expandable to 1,310 litres with the rear seats folded.
Inside, the DOLPHIN provides seating for five with ergonomic vegan leather sports seats, including heated front seats with electric adjustments. The car also includes a plethora of storage spaces and the Vehicle to Load (VtoL) discharge technology, which enables it to function as a mobile power station with a 3.3 kW discharge capability.
Comprehensive Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety is a paramount concern for the BYD DOLPHIN, and it comes equipped with an extensive suite of standard features. These include Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Prevention, among others. The panoramic camera offers 360-degree visibility, enhancing manoeuvrability and safety.
The BYD DOLPHIN’s new Active and Boost trims embody a commitment to making high-tech electric mobility accessible and affordable. With its advanced battery technology, innovative features, and comprehensive safety systems, the DOLPHIN redefines what it means to drive an eco-friendly car. The new trims are now available at local BYD dealers across the UK, providing an exciting opportunity for consumers to embrace the future of driving.
