London, United Kingdom – BYD, a global leader in new energy vehicles (NEV) and power batteries, has unveiled its latest innovation in public transportation: the all-new electric double-decker bus, the BYD BD11. This landmark debut took place at the London Bus Museum, a fitting venue as it showcases the first electric bus with a BYD K9E chassis dedicated to London’s public transport network.
The introduction of the BYD BD11 marks a significant advancement in the UK’s public transportation landscape, setting new standards for efficiency and eco-friendliness. Initially designed for London, this state-of-the-art double-decker bus will soon begin operations, with provincial models to follow.
Central to the BYD BD11 is the groundbreaking Blade Battery, renowned for its exceptional safety, energy density, and performance. This innovative battery offers a market-leading capacity of up to 532kWh, supporting flexible and rapid charging options, including dual-gun and pantograph fast charging up to 500kW. Impressively, the BYD BD11 can be fully charged from 0 to 100 percent in just two hours. Introduced in 2020, the Blade Battery represents BYD’s commitment to redefining safety standards in the industry, integrating seamlessly into the chassis to save weight, extend driving range, and enhance stability and maneuverability, while also maximizing passenger space.

The BYD BD11 features an integrated thermal management system, optimizing energy utilization for superior efficiency. Prioritizing both driver and passenger comfort and safety, it includes active suspension control and an array of advanced safety features, such as the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
As the only NEV producer to have developed its own powertrain systems, power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors, and motor controller systems, BYD boasts over 1,800 eBuses operating on UK roads, accumulating more than 80 million miles in total mileage. This impressive fleet has contributed to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, equivalent to 137 million tonnes.
Last year, BYD introduced new eBus innovations to the European market with the launch of the B12, continuing to lead the industry in public transport technology worldwide.
“BYD is dedicated to technological innovation and leading the global shift towards environmentally conscious public transportation,” says Frank Thorpe, Managing Director of BYD UK Commercial Vehicles. “The BYD BD11 will play a crucial role in reducing air pollution in London and supporting the UK’s broader carbon neutrality goals.”
“We are proud to launch our all-new electric double-decker bus, featuring highly innovative, world-leading technology for safe and reliable electric mobility. This will provide operators with modern, eco-friendly eBus options that meet their specifications, offering more people the choice to use clean, non-polluting bus services in the future.”
The BYD BD11 double-decker bus is not just a vehicle; it is a symbol of the future of public transportation, setting new benchmarks for sustainability, safety, and performance in the UK and beyond.
