BYD, the world leader in new-energy vehicles, is set to make a bold statement in the European compact-SUV market with the introduction of the ATTO 2 DM-i. Combining class-leading fuel efficiency, a practical and tech-forward cabin, and BYD’s signature Super Hybrid with DM technology, the ATTO 2 DM-i promises to transform the way drivers experience hybrid motoring.

Following the success of the SEAL U DM-i, Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid in several key markets, the ATTO 2 DM-i leverages BYD’s pioneering dual-mode (DM) technology to deliver the perfect balance of an EV-like driving experience and unrivalled real-world range. With a combined range of up to 1,000km, drivers can confidently explore longer journeys, knowing they have both electric performance and hybrid reassurance at their fingertips.

Super Hybrid with DM technology offers an ideal stepping stone for customers who want the EV driving experience without any worries about range anxiety,” said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD. “With the ATTO 2 DM-i, we bring those advantages to the compact SUV segment, creating a standout offering. This is not just a car—it’s a BYD.”

Distinctive Design in a Compact Package

The ATTO 2 DM-i blends classic SUV styling with compact practicality. Measuring 4,330mm long, 1,830mm wide, and 1,675mm tall, the model sits on a relatively long 2,620mm wheelbase, creating a spacious cabin while maintaining short overhangs that reinforce its SUV presence.

The front fascia is defined by full-LED headlights, slim daytime-running lights, and dynamic angular bumper lines. Vertical air curtains at the bumper edges enhance efficiency, while lower cladding and a ‘floating’ roofline accentuate the car’s agility. At the rear, a full-width light bar frames signature ‘Chinese knot’ tail-lights and a Mobius Infinity Ring, a symbol of endless good luck, while a convex rear bumper adds sporty flair.

Distinctive touches for the DM-i include a larger central grille, subtle front bumper accents, and a unique Midnight Blue paint option exclusive to Super Hybrid models.

Super Hybrid DM: Efficiency Meets Performance

Under the hood, the ATTO 2 DM-i brings BYD’s Super Hybrid with DM technology to the compact-SUV segment. Already proven in the SEAL U and SEAL 6 DM-i, the system combines dual high-speed electric motors, a Blade Battery, and the 1.5-litre Xiaoyun petrol engine, achieving a remarkable thermal efficiency of 43.04%.

The DM-i powertrain seamlessly alternates between EV mode—delivering up to 90km of pure-electric range on the larger battery—and HEV mode, where the petrol engine supports the electric system while maintaining an EV-like response. For moments requiring extra performance, the system switches to a combined series-parallel mode, merging engine and electric power for instant acceleration.

The results are impressive: weighted fuel consumption of just 1.8L/100km in Boost trim, 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.5 seconds, and a combined range of up to 1,000km. Two configurations are offered:

  • Active: 7.8kWh battery, 166PS system power, 40km electric range, 930km combined range.
  • Boost: 18kWh battery, 212PS system power, 90km electric range, 1,000km combined range, faster AC charging, and enhanced convenience features.

This combination of power, range, and efficiency positions the ATTO 2 DM-i far ahead of rivals in the compact-SUV segment.

Cabin Technology and Comfort

Inside, the ATTO 2 DM-i pairs high-quality materials with spacious ergonomics. The cabin features an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, 12.8-inch touchscreen, and BYD’s latest voice-controlled AI assistant, delivering multi-domain Q&A and multi-turn conversational capability. Boost models include a panoramic roof, fully flat rear floor, and ample cargo space of 425 litres, expanding to 1,335 litres with rear seats folded.

Smart design touches include steering-column-mounted gear selector, extra rear headrest, glasses holder, and new front seat ergonomics. USB-C ports, adaptive cruise control, and a full suite of driver-assistance technologies—including lane departure warning, blind spot detection, and autonomous emergency braking—come standard.

Standard Equipment and Safety

Both trims are generously equipped. The Active model offers 16-inch alloys, LED lighting, adaptive cruise, and smart key access, while Boost adds 17-inch wheels, 360-degree camera, heated front seats, panoramic roof, wireless charging, and Vehicle-to-Load capability. Safety is uncompromised, with comprehensive airbags and advanced driver assistance systems for complete peace of mind.

Availability and Warranty

The BYD ATTO 2 DM-i will arrive in European markets in early 2026, supported by a six-year manufacturer’s warranty and eight-year coverage for battery and drivetrain, underlining BYD’s commitment to reliability.
