Munich, September 2025 – At Europe’s premier automotive showcase, IAA Mobility 2025, BYD, the world’s leading new-energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, marked a series of strategic milestones, underlining its growing presence in the European market. From the public debut of its latest Super Hybrid to announcing its first European production facility, the Chinese EV powerhouse showcased innovation, ambition, and a commitment to customer confidence.
SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING: BYD’s First Combi Shines in Europe
The centerpiece of BYD’s official press conference was the SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, the company’s newest Super Hybrid model and its first combi designed for European roads. Featuring DM Technology, the SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING boasts a combined range of over 1,300 km, positioning it as one of the continent’s most capable extended-range vehicles. Its European public debut demonstrates BYD’s strategy to offer vehicles that combine long-distance practicality with electrified efficiency, appealing to families and touring enthusiasts alike.
DOLPHIN SURF Achieves Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating
Another highlight of BYD’s IAA presence was the recognition of the DOLPHIN SURF, the compact EV that earned the prestigious World Urban Car of the Year title, with a maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li emphasised that this accolade is a testament to the company’s technology-led development approach. “Our DOLPHIN SURF now has the top endorsement in Europe on safety,” Ms Li stated. “It’s a perfect example of how our focus on innovation delivers tangible benefits for customers.”
Manufacturing in Europe: DOLPHIN SURF Leads the Way
Looking ahead, BYD confirmed that the DOLPHIN SURF will be the first model produced at its new European factory in Szeged, Hungary. Scheduled to begin production by the end of 2025, the facility signals BYD’s commitment to building vehicles in Europe, for Europe, reducing lead times, and aligning with local market needs.

Pioneering Flash Charging in Europe
Expanding its infrastructure ambitions, BYD also announced the upcoming European rollout of its Flash Charging network, led by the DENZA premium brand. The system promises ultra-fast charging, capable of delivering approximately 400 km of range in just five minutes. By Q2 2026, between 200 and 300 stations are expected to be operational, reinforcing BYD’s commitment to convenient, sustainable mobility across the continent.
Certified Pre-Owned: Confidence Meets Sustainability
Recognising that access to new-energy vehicles extends beyond new car sales, BYD launched its Certified Pre-Owned programme at IAA 2025. Every approved-used vehicle will undergo a 179-point inspection, with a guaranteed battery health score of at least 90%. Buyers will also benefit from comprehensive warranties, roadside assistance, and data services, ensuring the purchase experience mirrors that of a new car.
Expanding European Presence
Beyond the exhibition halls, BYD showcased its models in Munich’s Odeonplatz and Königsplatz, including the DENZA Z9GT and D9 MPV, and offered the first European demonstrations of 1000kW Flash Charging. With this event, BYD celebrates the progress made in just two years, expanding its European portfolio from six to 13 vehicles, highlighting a rapid and focused approach to market penetration.
A Clear Road Ahead
BYD’s activities at IAA 2025 underline its multi-pronged approach: delivering technologically advanced vehicles, enhancing safety and customer confidence, and building the infrastructure needed to support Europe’s growing demand for new-energy mobility. The SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, DOLPHIN SURF, and the Certified Pre-Owned programme collectively demonstrate BYD’s readiness to lead in a continent increasingly committed to sustainable transport solutions.
As BYD turns its attention to production in Hungary and the European rollout of Flash Charging, the company is not only cementing its position in the EV market but redefining expectations for safety, range, and customer assurance in the process.
