For the seventh year running, grey reigns supreme as Britain’s most popular car colour, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Yet, as the monochrome dominance continues, Renault has set out to inject some much-needed vibrancy onto the nation’s roads.

Introducing the all-new Renault 5 electric supermini, available in the dazzling hues of Pop Yellow! and Pop Green!, Renault aims to spark a revolution in car colour choices. These bold shades not only break the grey monotony but also celebrate the idea that colour can uplift and inspire.

The Science of Brightness

Renault’s survey reveals a striking connection between colour and mood, with 69% of Brits affirming that colour has a positive impact on their emotional well-being. Further findings showed:

  • 43% associate bright colours with happiness.
  • 34% link bright colours with joy.
  • 20% admit that spotting a brightly coloured car makes them smile.

The emotional power of colour even extends to the personalities of drivers, with 14% of respondents believing bright-coloured car owners must be fun-loving individuals.

“Britons are famously conservative when choosing car colours, but the Renault 5’s Pop! shades are here to bring some joie de vivre to UK roads,” said Adam Wood, Managing Director of Renault UK.

A Legacy Reimagined

The Renault 5 isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a modern revival of a beloved classic. Originally produced between 1972 and 1985, the R5 sold 5.5 million units globally, becoming a cultural icon. Its 2024 electric reincarnation blends retro charm with cutting-edge technology, winning prestigious accolades such as:

  • Top Gear’s Car of the Year
  • Best Car of the Year
  • The Car of the Year 2025

Priced competitively at £22,995, the Renault 5 combines affordability with style, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Playing the Yellow Car Game

Renault’s vibrant Pop Yellow! option has also breathed new life into the timeless “Yellow Car” game, a road trip classic with historical roots in the UK’s rapeseed oil trade. Renault’s research found that 20% of Brits already play the game, and the introduction of more yellow cars could make spotting one a more frequent delight.

A Palette for All

While Renault encourages motorists to embrace bold colours, the R5 is also available in Arctic White, Diamond Black, and Midnight Blue for those who prefer a more traditional aesthetic.

Order Now

The Renault 5 is now available to order, with deliveries starting in April. Whether you opt for a Pop! shade to brighten up your commute or a classic colour to keep it understated, this electric supermini promises to deliver joy, innovation, and nostalgia in equal measure.

For more information, visit Renault.co.uk and join the movement to add a splash of colour to Britain’s streets this January.

Let’s make 2024 the year we say goodbye to grey and hello to a brighter, happier driving experience.
