High performance par excellence was at the very top of the specifications for the developers. The BRABUS PowerXtra B40S-750 performance upgrade unleashes the hidden reserves of the turbocharged four-liter V8. To this end, the power unit engineers developed two BRABUS custom turbochargers with a compressor unit enlarged to 52 millimeters (2 in), and a modified core assembly with reinforced axial bearing. The boost pressure they produce is limited to 1.7 bar max.

This required, among other things, reprogramming the electronic boost pressure control. Comprehensive bench tests and extensive test drives on public roads and racetracks were also conducted to devise new maps for injection and ignition. The new control data are introduced into the electronic engine controls by the plug-and-play BRABUS PowerXtra module.

The result is outstanding: After the modifications, engine power is up by 121 kW / 165 hp (162 bhp) and torque by 100 Nm (74 lb-ft). In keeping with its name, the BRABUS 750 power unit produces a peak power of 552 kW / 750 hp (740 bhp) at 6,100 rpm, and an impressive peak torque of 900 Nm (664 lb-ft), which is already on tap at a low 4,000 rpm.

Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 Of 25 1The professional development process, which has been a hallmark of BRABUS for decades, achieved not only these significantly improved performance figures, but also extremely commanding performance curves across the entire rev range. They are equally inherent to this engine as is compliance with the stringent emission limits. Further typical characteristics of every BRABUS engine are perfect daily usability and flawless durability. The Bottrop-based manufactory of dream cars vouches for this with the three-year or 100,000-km/62,000-mile BRABUS Tuning Warranty (see BRABUS Warranty Terms and Conditions, updated July 2013). BRABUS exclusively uses high-performance lubricants from MOTUL.

Of course, a beefy BRABUS engine also has to produce a thrilling exhaust note. This is ensured by the BRABUS stainless high-performance exhaust system with four carbon/titanium tailpipes. Depending on the activated driving mode, the integrated, actively controlled butterfly valves ensure a subtle noise in the closed “Coming Home” position or a particularly exhilarating V8 symphony when set to “Sport.”

The BRABUS 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 of 25 is equipped with a SPEEDSHIFT nine-speed transmission, whose gears are shifted automatically or manually with the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, making it one of the most agile cars of its kind. From rest, the sports car weighing about 1.9 metric tons (4,190 lbs.) catapults itself to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.3 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 315 km/h (196 mph).

In order to be able to keep the vehicle safely under control at these tremendous speeds, a BRABUS aerodynamics upgrade for the current SL was developed in the wind tunnel. All components are manufactured from carbon and come with a choice of a high-gloss sealed surface finish as pictured here or in a version with matt coating.

The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the lower section of the bumper. It gives the roadster more thrilling looks and reduces front-axle lift to boot. The raised elements at its sides route the airflow past the front fender wells. BRABUS surrounds for the side air intakes in the front fascia in concert with the air intakes at the left and right in the radiator grille round off the striking face of the roadster. All of them are made from carbon with exposed interior structure.

The sides of the two-door car are enhanced with exposed-carbon front fender attachments with integrated BRABUS logo. To give the rear end a sportier touch, the company developed a BRABUS exposed-carbon diffuser insert for the rear fascia, whose tailor-made cutouts perfectly showcase the tailpipes of the BRABUS sports exhaust. The finishing touch is provided by the subtle BRABUS lip spoiler at the rear. All plastic parts on the outer skin were painted black to match the black paint finish of the vehicle.

In the late Eighties, the BRABUS created an unmistakable visual feature of custom Mercedes-Benz automobiles with the BRABUS Monoblock II three-spoke rim design. This design was now revived using state-of-the-art forging and machining technology. Like its legendary archetype from the Nineties mounted on the BRABUS 7.3 S, the new BRABUS Monoblock II evo “PLATINUM EDITION” alloys have three spokes.

Thanks to cutting-edge production methods, the 2023 design could be fitted with a precise, thin slot in each spoke. Another new feature is the lockable hub cap with BRABUS logo. It takes the shape of a centerlock nut. The surfaces were finished with “Shadow Gray” glazing specifically for the vehicles of the BRABUS 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 of 25.

Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 Of 25 InteriorThe BRABUS developers emphasize the wedge shape of the all-wheel-drive roadster by opting for different wheel diameters on the front and rear axle. The front axle uses rims of size 10.5Jx21 with 275/35 ZR 21 tires. The rear axle rolls on extra-wide 12Jx22 wheels with tires of size 335/25 ZR 22. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from its technology partners Continental and YOKOHAMA.

BRABUS developed custom sports springs to make the handling of the two-seater even more agile. They lower the ride height of the car by about 25 millimeters (1 in). Of course, the front lift function is retained. It facilitates navigating parking garage ramps and driving over obstacles such as speed bumps.

In keeping with Bodo Buschmann’s philosophy of preferably driving a supercar that is all black inside and out, the BRABUS MASTERPIECE interior for this edition sports precisely this color scheme. High-quality black leather dominates in the interior, which is executed in exemplary fashion and features a combination of upholstery designs that impressively demonstrates why BRABUS interior design is world-renowned.

The visors and seat side bolsters feature embossed, stylized “77” logos, which are applied in the “Heritage” brand pattern to commemorate 1977, the year BRABUS was founded. But that’s not all: The upholstery design of the seat surfaces is yet another tribute to Bodo Buschmann. He favored this particular ultraprecise square quilting, which in this roadster also continues on the armrests of the center console. The accurate perforations of the exquisite material on the seat surfaces ensures optimal function of the seat climate control.

High-gloss carbon elements on steering wheel, center console and doors represent a sporty complement to the black leather. The hi-tech composite material is also used for the pedal pads and the scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo, which changes colors in sync with the ambient lighting.

All trim components in the cockpit were finished with “Shadow Gray” glazing to match the color scheme of the BRABUS alloys. The 86 elements in all include the air vents, their surrounds, the speaker grilles, and the switches.

The BRABUS 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 of 25 supercar will be built in an exclusive edition of just 25 vehicles. Naturally, BRABUS also offers all components and modifications individually for all current R 232 series models.

Fuel economy and CO2 emissions in accordance with WLTP:

BRABUS 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 of 25 based on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+: combined fuel economy: 12.5 l/100 km (18.8 mpg); combined CO2 emissions: 284.0 g/km.
