The BMW M3 E30 has long lived as more than a performance car. It is a marker of motorsport history, a design icon that helped define BMW M’s identity on track and road alike. Now, forty years after its debut, it returns in an unexpected but fitting form: a LEGO® Speed Champions set created through a collaboration between BMW Group and the LEGO Group.
This special edition release celebrates the anniversary with a co-designed livery that bridges two worlds of design. Developed jointly by both brands, the graphic treatment does more than decorate a model. It connects a scaled LEGO build and a full-size BMW M3 E30 showcar, both carrying the same visual identity. The result is a shared canvas that reinforces the car’s legacy while reinterpreting it for a new generation of fans.
At the heart of the set is a carefully detailed miniature recreation of the first-generation M3. The LEGO design captures its most recognisable elements, including the BMW kidney grille, the aggressive front end with its signature quad circular headlights, and the rear spoiler that hints at its racing pedigree. These features are distilled into brick form with a focus on authenticity, ensuring the character of the original car remains intact even at a smaller scale.
Comprising 358 pieces, the model measures approximately 17 centimetres in length and 7 centimetres in width. Despite its compact size, it is designed to deliver a dynamic building experience, complete with functional wheels and a driver minifigure wearing a BMW M T-shirt. It is a playful nod to the culture surrounding the M brand, where identity and performance are closely intertwined.
The collaboration also extends beyond the build itself. A scaled-up version of the minifigure’s BMW M T-shirt will be released from August 2026 through BMW dealers and lifestyle.bmw.com. Made from organic cotton with high-quality printed detailing on both front and back, it translates the set’s character into wearable form for enthusiasts who want to carry a piece of the collaboration beyond the shelf.
The LEGO Speed Champions range has built its reputation on transforming automotive icons into accessible, collectible models, and the BMW M3 E30 fits naturally into that tradition. It represents an era when touring car racing shaped brand identity as much as production vehicles did, and when engineering decisions were forged in the intensity of competition.
For BMW, the E30 M3 remains a cornerstone of its motorsport heritage. For LEGO, it is another chapter in a growing library of automotive storytelling through bricks. Together, they create a product that appeals across generations, blending nostalgia, design appreciation, and hands-on creativity.
The LEGO® Speed Champions BMW M3 E30 is available for pre-order via LEGO.com, with official release set for 1 August 2026. It will be sold through LEGO stores, BMW dealers across the EU and UK, and selected global lifestyle channels, with a recommended retail price of €27.99.
To mark the 40th anniversary, a public presentation in Berlin will take place on launch day, featuring the full-scale BMW M3 E30 showcar wearing the co-designed livery. The event underscores the collaboration between BMW and the LEGO Group, highlighting how an iconic racing machine can continue to evolve while remaining rooted in its original motorsport spirit.
