BMW is taking in-vehicle intelligence to a whole new level with the integration of Amazon’s Alexa+ technology into its BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, debuting in the 2026 BMW iX3. The enhanced AI assistant allows drivers and passengers to interact with their vehicle through natural, conversational dialogue, bridging the gap between human communication and machine understanding.
For the first time, users can ask complex questions combining vehicle functions and general knowledge in a single sentence. The assistant can respond contextually, guiding users seamlessly from information to action—for example, providing details about an artwork and simultaneously offering navigation to its location. Integration with Amazon accounts expands access to music streaming, news updates, and a wide range of content.
“BMW’s collaboration with Amazon represents a shared commitment to technological excellence,” says Stephan Durach, BMW Group Senior Vice President of Development, Digital Services, Infotainment, and Connected Company. “With Alexa+ technology, our Intelligent Personal Assistant becomes a truly intelligent companion, setting new standards for natural interaction in the automotive world.”
Daniel Rausch, Vice President of Alexa and Echo, adds: “BMW’s advanced technology, combined with Alexa+’s conversational capabilities, creates a sophisticated and seamless in-vehicle experience for drivers and passengers alike.”
The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant leverages generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) to understand and respond to natural language without relying on predefined commands. This allows follow-up questions and interactive dialogues, enhancing accuracy and personalization over time.
Initially available at launch in Germany and the United States, the upgraded assistant will be showcased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. BMW iX3 owners will benefit first, with the technology gradually rolling out across additional BMW models featuring Operating System 9 and the new Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X.
The integration of Alexa+ reflects BMW’s commitment to software-defined vehicles, enhancing the digital ecosystem of its customers while maintaining the brand’s hallmark focus on comfort, convenience, and cutting-edge technology.
The BMW iX3 also delivers impressive efficiency, with WLTP energy consumption ranging from 15.1 to 17.9 kWh/100 km, a zero-emission rating, and an electric range of 679 to 805 km, underscoring BMW’s leadership in sustainable mobility.
With the AI-powered Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW sets a new benchmark for intelligent, human-like vehicle interaction, making every journey smarter, smoother, and more connected.
