BMW Group UK has taken in-car connectivity to the next level, partnering with Global, the UK’s leading Media & Entertainment Group, to integrate the Global Player app directly into BMW and MINI vehicles’ built-in infotainment systems. This pioneering collaboration puts a library of radio stations, award-winning podcasts, and expertly curated playlists at the fingertips of over 180,000 drivers across the UK – making BMW and MINI the first automotive brands to offer Global Player as a native app.
Seamless Streaming Without a Smartphone
With the Global Player app embedded directly into the vehicle’s system, drivers no longer need to rely on their smartphones to access their favourite audio content. Once downloaded from the BMW or MINI app store and signed in, the app delivers instant, uninterrupted access to personalised music, news, and podcasts. Whether on the road, at home, or in the office, users can switch seamlessly between devices without losing their place – a reflection of BMW and MINI’s commitment to a fully integrated digital experience.
The app allows drivers to rewind or pause radio shows, catch up on missed programmes, and explore thousands of podcasts and playlists – all using the vehicle’s built-in controls. By integrating Global Player alongside other third-party apps, BMW and MINI ensure the interface remains intuitive and safe to use while driving. Furthermore, the data required to stream content is included as part of the BMW Digital Premium or MINI Connected Package, keeping the experience simple and hassle-free.
A Growing Audience on the Move
Currently, over 180,000 BMW and MINI vehicles in the UK support the Global Player in-car app, a figure set to exceed 300,000 by the end of 2026. The expansion will extend to the all-new BMW iX3, powered by BMW’s latest Operating System X, as well as all upcoming Neue Klasse models – cementing the integration as a core feature of BMW and MINI’s digital ecosystem.
Chris Hollis, BMW Group Customer Digital Applications Manager, highlights the value of the partnership: “We’re excited to offer BMW and MINI customers enhanced connectivity through the new Global Player in-car app, allowing them to enjoy their most-loved music, news and podcasts with ease. This latest addition complements the wide variety of apps already available for customers and further strengthens our seamless in-car entertainment experience.”
Stephen Toombs, Head of In-Car Distribution for Global Player at Global, added: “This partnership with BMW Group UK is part of our ambition to make Global Player available everywhere our audiences are. We know that in-car listening plays an important role in people’s daily routines, and we want to make finding the audio they love as easy as possible.”
Driving the Future of In-Car Entertainment
By embedding Global Player into the infotainment ecosystem, BMW and MINI are redefining what drivers can expect from in-car entertainment. This seamless integration combines convenience, safety, and choice, letting drivers focus on the road while enjoying the content they love. For UK motorists, the journey just became a lot more engaging.
