Crewe, 28 April 2025 — Bentley Motors is proud to unveil a remarkable one-of-a-kind surfboard, meticulously crafted in collaboration with Marnie Rays and Otter Surfboards. This unique creation, finished in Koa veneer from Bentley’s renowned Woodshop in Crewe, pays tribute to the enduring spirit of craftsmanship and adventure, blending luxury with the thrill of the ocean.
A Journey of Craftsmanship and Adventure
Bentley’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship extends beyond automobiles, and this exclusive surfboard is a testament to the brand’s legacy. The Koa veneer, chosen specifically for this project, originates from the Hawaiian islands—a nod to the traditional surfboard crafting methods of the region. Selected during a visit to Bentley’s Crewe headquarters by Lindsey Holland, founder of Marnie Rays, and James Otter, founder of Otter Surfboards, the Koa wood was handpicked with the expert guidance of Bentley’s highly skilled craftspeople.
“Craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do at Bentley,” says Greg Drury, Digital Communications Manager at Bentley Motors. “This project has been a true collaboration, blending the beauty of Bentley’s materials with the dedication to quality and the adventurous spirit shared by all of the partners involved.”
Koa veneer is a prized material at Bentley, having been a core component in the interiors of the brand’s cars for over a century. The wood is sustainably sourced, ensuring that each piece not only meets Bentley’s exacting standards of quality but also aligns with the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
From Crewe to Cornwall: The Creation Process
After the veneer was selected, it was passed on to James Otter at his Cornwall workshop, where it underwent the meticulous shaping process that Otter Surfboards is renowned for. Using his signature method, Otter shaped the board by hand, ensuring that every curve and contour was perfectly crafted. The surfboard was then finished with etched logos from Bentley, Marnie Rays, and Otter Surfboards, making this a true one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
The entire journey of creation, from the selection of the wood in Crewe to the shaping process in Cornwall, has been documented in a captivating short film. The film takes viewers on a three-part journey, exploring the craftsmanship at Bentley’s Woodshop, the shaping of the board by James Otter, and finally, the thrill of surfing in the Cornish waves. The film is narrated by Lindsey Holland, founder of Marnie Rays, through a unique poem that reflects the spirit of adventure that inspired the project.
The film also features the Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase, tying together the elements of luxury and adventure that are intrinsic to both the project and Bentley’s ethos.

The Unveiling at Marnie Rays
The surfboard was officially unveiled at Marnie Rays, a VIP surf retreat that blends luxury with adventure. This exclusive retreat offers guests the ultimate surfing experience, combining relaxation with the rush of the ocean. Guests at the retreat were among the first to see and surf the bespoke Koa veneer surfboard, a true fusion of craftsmanship, adventure, and natural beauty.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
Following the unveiling, the surfboard will be auctioned to raise funds for Surfability UK, a Community Interest Company that provides adaptive surfing lessons and experiences for individuals with disabilities, injuries, or learning differences. The auction proceeds will support Surfability UK’s mission to make the ocean accessible to all, ensuring that the spirit of adventure is shared by everyone, regardless of ability.
“We are thrilled to partner with Bentley and Marnie Rays on this incredible project,” said James Otter. “The collaboration is a celebration of creativity, sustainability, and craftsmanship. The surfboard represents not just a physical object, but a journey that connects us all to the beauty of the natural world.”
Lindsey Holland, founder of Marnie Rays, echoed this sentiment, saying, “I’m truly honoured that Marnie Rays is part of this collaboration. This project blends the art of adventure with the beauty and slowness of craftsmanship, culminating in the freedom of the ocean. I can’t wait for the world to see this incredible film and experience the spirit of adventure that it represents.”
