As part of its commitment, Bentley has partnered with SeaTrees, a California-based organization known for its innovative approaches to marine conservation. The collaboration aims to restore and monitor kelp forests across three key coastal sites in California, where more than 90 percent of kelp has been lost due to climate change and ecological imbalances.
The decline of kelp forests in California has been exacerbated by the disappearance of sunflower stars—a key predator of purple sea urchins, which feed on living kelp. To counteract this, the project includes an innovative initiative to grow sunflower stars under laboratory conditions. Once reintroduced into the ocean, these invertebrates will play a crucial role in regulating the population of purple sea urchins, thus restoring balance to the marine ecosystem.
