At a time when affordability often comes at the expense of specification, BAIC’s new B30 SUV proves that South African buyers no longer have to compromise. Starting at just R519,000, the B30 combines turbocharged performance, confident SUV styling, and a host of high-end features previously reserved for more expensive vehicles—redefining what’s possible in the mid-size SUV segment.

Even the entry-level B30 Elite Adventure is impressively equipped. LED lighting, a full digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, and BAIC’s comprehensive driver-assist suite come standard—amenities that other brands often save for higher trim levels. “We’ve built a car that delivers what people want, not just what they can afford,” says Ameena Hassan, Brand & PR Manager at BAIC South Africa. “The B30 gives customers advanced safety, design, and comfort—without compromise. It’s a smarter choice for a new generation of SUV buyers.”

Next-Gen Features Without the Price Premium

Step inside the B30, and it’s clear this SUV is designed for the modern driver. A sweeping 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system anchors the cockpit, accompanied by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that adapts to driving modes and lighting conditions. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, voice recognition, wireless charging, and Bluetooth connectivity come standard.

Safety is equally comprehensive. The B30 introduces BAIC’s Level 2 ADAS package, including:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Blind-Spot Detection (BSD)
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection
  • 360° panoramic camera system

Luxury touches extend to heated and ventilated leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a three-memory driver seat with Welcome Mode. “Advanced technology shouldn’t be an upgrade—it should be a given,” adds Hassan. “The B30 gives customers features normally found in vehicles well above this price point.”

Built for South Africa, With Local Legacy

The B30 joins BAIC’s Coega Industrial Development Zone assembly line in Gqeberha, alongside the B40 Plus and X55 Plus. This facility, developed in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), represents one of South Africa’s largest automotive investments—over R11 billion committed to local manufacturing.

Local assembly ensures faster delivery, stronger after-sales support, and a robust local supply chain. It also drives job creation and skills transfer, reinforcing BAIC’s long-term presence in the country. “Building the B30 locally is part of our belief that South Africa is not just a market—it’s a manufacturing hub,” says Hassan. “It means better support, better service, and a shared investment in the country’s future.”

Engineered With 60 Years of Off-Road DNA

BAIC’s legacy of off-road expertise is evident in the B30. With over 60 years of engineering experience and more than 4 million kilometres of global testing, the SUV has been built to perform in extreme conditions—from frozen winters to desert heat.

The B30 Premium Adventure HEV AWD produces 301 kW and 685 Nm, blending petrol and electric power for dynamic performance. Its All-Terrain System (ATS) offers Mud, Sand, Wading, and Snow modes, while the real-time AWD system reacts in just 0.03 seconds. With 215 mm ground clearance, a 25° approach, and a 30° departure angle, the B30 handles everything from gravel roads to steep inclines with confidence. “The B30 was tested in the world’s toughest conditions but built for South Africa,” Hassan notes.

Power Meets Efficiency

The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine delivers 138 kW and 305 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Hybrid variants utilise BAIC’s Magic Core Hybrid System, optimising fuel economy and performance. The hybrid AWD variant produces 301 kW combined while achieving fuel efficiency as low as 5.85 L/100 km, with a driving range of up to 1,000 km.

A New Chapter for BAIC

The B30 is more than a new model—it’s a statement of intent. It positions BAIC as a credible, long-term player in South Africa’s automotive landscape, combining global technology, local insight, and real value. “The B30 shows who we are and where we’re going,” concludes Hassan. “Because for us, there’s always more than one road.”
