McLaren has unveiled the striking Senna Sempre livery, a breathtaking homage to legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna. Senna, who drove for McLaren from 1988 to 1993, secured three Formula 1 World Championships and remains one of the sport’s most revered figures. The evocative Senna Sempre artwork, crafted by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), adorns a pre-production McLaren Senna from McLaren’s heritage collection.
The livery features vibrant colors symbolizing Senna’s personality and Brazilian heritage, with additional elements celebrating his iconic performances at the Monaco Grand Prix. This bespoke livery has been developed alongside a special design for the MCL38 Formula 1 cars driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri during the Monaco Grand Prix, both part of McLaren’s initiative to commemorate Senna’s extraordinary racing prowess, 30 years after his passing in 1994.

Throughout the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, the unique McLaren Senna in Senna Sempre livery will be proudly displayed, marking 30 years of Ayrton Senna’s unmatched legacy. This tribute vividly encapsulates Senna’s dynamic personality, his three World Championships, and his five triumphant Monaco Grand Prix victories with McLaren.
In tandem with a one-off livery for the MCL38 Formula 1 cars, McLaren Automotive honors Ayrton Senna’s immense talent and racing achievements with the Senna Sempre livery. This hand-painted masterpiece by MSO is applied to a pre-production McLaren Senna from McLaren’s heritage collection.
The Senna Sempre livery exemplifies McLaren’s collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Institute and showcases the exceptional paint mastery and craftsmanship of McLaren Special Operations (MSO). It features striking visuals celebrating Ayrton Senna’s Formula 1 career, his relentless pursuit of perfection, Brazilian nationality, and McLaren’s racing heritage—especially his dominance on the streets of Monaco.
“Ayrton Senna was born to race, and his passion for performance and perfection lives on at McLaren. The McLaren Senna bears his name and embodies his spirit – it is the ultimate road-going McLaren for focused track performance, and this masterfully detailed inspiration captures Ayrton’s infectious energy. Our collaboration with McLaren Racing to honor the Senna racing legacy 30 years on is a shared celebration of Ayrton’s unique racing abilities, and the Monaco street circuit he made his own is the perfect place to reflect on his incredible achievements.”
- Michael Leiters, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive
“The team is proud to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery. Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver. His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also presence within the team, and now his legacy, so it’s an honor to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow, and blue colors.”
- Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Racing
Unveiled in December 2017, the McLaren Senna stands as the most extreme McLaren road car ever produced, designed for uncompromised track performance. The Senna Sempre livery transforms a pre-production McLaren Senna from McLaren’s heritage collection, used initially for performance validation and extensively featured in media campaigns and landmark events.
Inspired by Ayrton Senna’s legacy, the McLaren Senna bears both his name and the iconic Senna ‘Double S’ logo alongside the McLaren badge. The intricate paintwork incorporates the Double S, blending seamlessly with the bespoke livery of the MCL38 Formula 1 car. The colors, representing the Brazilian flag, are applied using a unique wash technique developed by MSO, creating a dynamic, flowing effect without additional color blending.
The car’s design includes green and white border lines inspired by Senna’s helmet and hand-painted dot matrix representations of Senna on and off the track. The interior features bespoke yellow Alcantara upholstery with green perforations, a white 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel, and Ayrton Senna’s signature and inspirational quote on the sills.
With six victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, Ayrton Senna’s name is synonymous with Formula 1’s flagship race. McLaren honors his remarkable achievements with watermarks of his race numbers from his five consecutive Monaco victories with McLaren from 1989 to 1993.
McLaren’s tribute extends to the track with a bespoke one-off livery for the MCL38 Formula 1 cars, replacing the standard design with vibrant yellow, green, and blue colors inspired by Senna’s helmet, to be showcased at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The unique McLaren Senna with Senna Sempre livery will be on display in Monaco throughout the Grand Prix weekend, celebrating the lasting legacy of one of Formula 1’s greatest icons.
