Today May 4, 2014 Google announced the celebration of Audrey Hepburn’s life and legacy with an Audrey Hepburn Google Doodle. Audrey Hepburn was a famous Belgium born actress. She made name for herself in the United Kingdom and the United States of America as an actress. Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels in Belgium and passed away in Vaud, Switzerland at the age of 63 on January 20, 1993.

Audrey Hepburn is recognized as a film and fashion icon across the globe and were particular famous during her career as an actress which spanned from 1948 to 1989. This period is often referred to as Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Audrey Hepburn was ranked by the American Film Institute as the third greatest female screen legend in the history of American cinema and has been placed in the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.

She is still today regarded by many to be the most naturally beautiful woman of all time. Audrey Hepburn spent her childhood mostly in Belgium where she was born, but also often found herself in England and the Netherlands, including German-occupied Arnhem during the Second World War. She studied Ballet in England and also performed at the West-End Musical Theater.

Audrey Hepburn to this day remain one of the few people who have won Academy Awards, Gammy Awards and Tony Awards for her performances. She starred in roles like the 1951 Broadway play Gigi, and also played in the Roman Holiday 1953 which won an Academy Award. Audrey Hepburn also played in movies like Sabrina, The Nun’s Story and the famous Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Other Roles included Charade in 1963, My Fair Lady in 1964 and Wait until Dark in 1967 for which she received another Academy Award. For her role in Roman holiday, Hepburn was also the first actress to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for a single performance in 1954. The same year, she won a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play for Ondine.

Hepburn’s legacy as an actress and a personality has endured long after her death. The American Film Institute named Hepburn third among the Greatest Female Stars of All Time, and today Audrey Hephurn’s legacy will once again come to the front by Google honoring her with a Google Doodle.

About the Audrey Hepburn Google Doodle Creative

Audrey Hepburn

Finding the right solution for someone as timeless as Audrey proved a tricky task.  Not only was she a classically beautiful actress, she also dedicated her life to philanthropy.  I wanted to show both sides of her life’s work.

It was easy to find inspiration for her portrait in Yousuf Karsh’s photograph from 1956.  The black and white image is graceful and understated yet immediately recognizable.  Taking cues from Audrey’s movie posters and work with charities, I added a graphic splash of pink and figures of her dancing with and embracing children.

Moreover, as a style icon, Audrey inspired many exploration sketches from several members of the doodle team.  Below are some of my early concepts and versions of Audrey amongst the doodlers.
