Audi South Africa is to launch two long wheelbase derivatives of its A8 luxury sedan at the Johannesburg Motor Show to be held at Expo Centre, Nasrec, from October 6-16, with the first two days reserved for the media and VIP guests.
This top of the range A8 model, knows as the A8 L, will be available in two derivatives, with both offering superlative luxury, top quality craftsmanship and having impressive performance credentials.
An overall length of 5.267m makes the new Audi A8 L 130mm longer than the regular version. The wheelbase has been increased by the same amount to 3 122mm. The width remains unchanged at 1 949mm; while the height has increased by 2mm to 1 462mm.
The Audi 8 L has two unique engine options. Customers can choose between the powerful 4.2 TDI twin-turbo V8 diesel and the new 6.3-litre W12 FSI petrol engine. The A8 L 4.2 TDI is the only diesel long wheelbase model available on the local market.
The twelve-cylinder 6.3 FSI engine has an output of 368 kW and delivers its peak torque of 625 Nm at only 3 250 r/min. It sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.9 sec. and then rushes on effortlessly reaches its governed top speed of 250km/h.

The A8 4.2 TDI q Tiptronic also boasts impressive engine performance figures, with 258 kW of power and 800 Nm of torque. This results in the 0-100 km/h sprint being despatched in a little over 6 sec. with the top speed also limited to 250 km/h.
Both Audi A8 L models feature Quattro® all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox. Fully adjustable air-suspension is standard while the Quattro® sports differential provides additional cornering ability.
The standard equipment level on both long wheelbase models is most impressive and includes rear seat entertainment with dual wide screen LCD screens, rear multimedia interface (MMI) controller and Bluetooth wireless headsets, as well as electric sunshades for the rear window and rear door windows. Also included as standard are 20” alloy wheels. The A8 L with the 6,3 W12 engine has LED headlights.
The new Audi A8 L 4.2 TDI q Tiptronic and A8 L 6.3 W12 FSI q Tiptronic are available to order at all Audi Centres for an all-inclusive retail price of R1 244 000 and R1 599 500 respectively. This includes a 5-year/ 100 000km Freeway full maintenance plan.
