Amarok has been a star performer on the light commercial vehicles sales chart since its launch in September 2010. On Sunday, 4 September 2011, Amarok took on a different role as the star performer in the latest television series of the venerable Voetspore.
“The Amarok sales in the past few months show that it is the favoured vehicle in the segment at the moment. We were excited when Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles agreed to partner us in our expedition to introduce viewers into the wonders of our continent as well as showcase the off road capabilities of the Amarok,” said Johan Badenhorst, the Voetspore expedition leader.
In the past 11 years, Johan has completed six expeditions and covered over 140 000 kilometres across Africa.
“For our seventh journey, we will be doing it in luxury and comfort that is offered by the Amarok. Added to this will be, the class leading off road technology and exceptional fuel consumption,” concluded Johan.
“Our partnership with Voetspore on this expedition is another opportunity for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to show its confidence in the proven off road capabilities and endurance of the Amarok on the roughest terrains of the African continent,” said Jaco Steenekamp, General Manager: Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
“Amarok recently covered over 64000 kilometres over 111 days through 54 countries in five continents without a major mechanical breakdown. The Voetspore expedition will yet again prove that Amarok is a smart choice for on road and off road driving.”
The crew of six includes Johan’s 15-year son, Streicher who has been travelling with his dad since the age of 9.
Three Amaroks will be used for the expedition and will lead the Voetspore crew from the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas to Alexandria, Egypt. The route will take the team through Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethopia, Somaliland, Djobouti, Eritrea, Sudan and Egypt.
For this journey, no special modifications have been made to the Amaroks except from lifting the suspension. All three vehicles will be fully kitted with camping accessories supplied by 4×4 Megaworld. Other sponsors include Alva, Drimac, Maglite, Gerber, Nikon and HiQ Autowiel.
