The Alpine A290 continues its remarkable ascent in the automotive world, adding yet another accolade to a year already marked by recognition and acclaim. The pure-electric hot hatch has been named Best Design Innovation of 2025 by readers of the prestigious German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, marking the seventh international award for Alpine’s latest electric offering.
In the 25th annual Autonis Awards, 14,000 participants cast their votes across 117 models spanning 13 segments, all representing the latest in automotive design and innovation. The A290 emerged as a clear frontrunner, securing 37.3% of the votes—a testament to its compelling combination of aesthetics, performance, and forward-thinking electric technology.
A Year of Unprecedented Recognition
The Autonis Award is the latest in a series of accolades that have propelled the Alpine A290 to the forefront of the electric sports car segment. Its winning streak began with a landmark achievement earlier in 2025, when the European Car of the Year jury named it Car of the Year 2025, marking the first time an Alpine model had claimed the title and heralding a bold new electric era for the French marque.
In France, the A290 won Sports Car of the Year during the 32nd ceremony of Les Trophées de L’Argus, chosen by the public for its perfect blend of sportiness and cutting-edge EV technology. The summer months brought further recognition from the Association des Médias Auto et Moto (AMAM), with the A290 receiving the ‘Coup de foudre’ (Love at First Sight) Award after rigorous testing by a 32-member jury evaluating the best electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles introduced in 2024.
The UK also embraced Alpine’s electrified vision, with Autocar naming the A290 the Best Fun EV, praising the model for “rewriting the formula” for driver-focused electric vehicles. German publications have similarly lauded the hatchback, with Auto Zeitung awarding the Design Trophy and Firmenauto recognising it as the Fleet Car of the Year 2025 in the import category for electric minicars and small cars.

French Elegance Meets Electric Performance
Across all these awards, a consistent theme has emerged: the Alpine A290 is celebrated not just for its performance, but for its design, agility, and unmistakable French flair. Its compact yet assertive stance is defined by a wide track, flared fenders, and color-contrasting side skirts, while the front end features four X-shaped headlights inspired by Alpine’s rally heritage, ensuring a striking presence day or night.
Inside, the driver-focused cabin continues the theme of sporty sophistication. The three-spoke sports steering wheel in nappa leather with contrasting stitching anchors a cockpit brimming with purposeful detail, including Formula 1-inspired switches, sports pedals, and a dedicated footrest, all contributing to a distinctly athletic environment.
Driving the Electric Future
The Alpine A290 embodies a rare combination: a car that delivers both excitement and refinement, agility and elegance, all in an electric package. It is proof that the transition to zero-emission mobility does not require compromise—performance, design, and driving pleasure can thrive alongside sustainability.
With seven international awards in less than a year, the A290 is not just a milestone for Alpine; it is a statement of intent for the future of electric sports cars. For enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike, the Alpine A290 offers a glimpse of what the next generation of high-performance EVs can achieve—a perfect blend of innovation, style, and driving joy.
