Alpha Recovery, one of the UK’s foremost breakdown and heavy recovery specialists, has taken a significant step in enhancing its fleet capabilities with the delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz Arocs truck through Bell Truck and Van. The acquisition reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to performance, technology, and driver-centric design in demanding recovery operations.
Operating across Northumberland, Tyneside, Wearside, County Durham, Teesside, and North Yorkshire, Alpha Recovery provides 24/7 solutions for both private and commercial clients. From specialist off-road recoveries to bus, coach, and van rescues, the company’s 36-strong fleet delivers rapid-response services that set the standard for technical recovery expertise in the UK.
The new Arocs, already earmarked as a cornerstone of Alpha’s operations, brings a new level of capability to the business. With a 15.6-litre 627bhp engine producing 3,000Nm of torque, the truck features an 8×4 configuration with steel suspension and a maximum gross train weight of 180 tonnes — ideal for recovering large trucks with trailers. Its Mercedes-Benz PowerShift automated gearbox, complete with 12 speeds and selectable driving modes such as rocking mode and fast reverse, ensures precision handling in even the most challenging conditions.
Complementing the Arocs chassis is the Falkom FAW25000 wrecker system, selected for its proven reliability and suitability for rigorous heavy recovery demands. The combination of truck and wrecker was custom-specified in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz technical teams, Bell Truck and Van, and Rydam Universal to match Alpha’s precise operational requirements.
“We chose the Arocs because of our excellent past experiences with Mercedes vehicles,” said Michael Burke of Alpha Recovery. “This truck had to meet serious demands — and it’s exceeded expectations. The performance, technology, driver comfort, and engine braking are outstanding. Plus, it offers a fuel return we’ve not seen from other manufacturers.”

The delivery process, facilitated by Alex Wordsworth, Group Head of Truck Sales at Bell Truck and Van, was smooth and carefully coordinated. “Alex took all the stress out of the build and conversion,” added Michael. “Knowing any query will be dealt with quickly and competently is invaluable. The process was seamless.”
Long-time Mercedes-Benz operators, Alpha Recovery had previously invested in two Unimogs and four Ategos. The Arocs represents their first heavy vehicle from the manufacturer, signaling the company’s ambition to further expand its capabilities. Discussions are already underway about adding another Arocs to the fleet.
“The Arocs takes our heavy recovery operations to the next level,” Michael continued. “Our driver was blown away by the ease of use, comfort, and sheer capability of the truck. In high-pressure recovery scenarios, reliability and performance aren’t optional — they’re essential. This truck delivers on every front.”
Alex Wordsworth added: “Alpha has been a trusted partner for many years. Working with them, Rydam, Falkom, and Daimler Truck Technical, we were able to develop the perfect specification. Seeing the finished vehicle on the road and hearing the driver’s feedback has been hugely rewarding. This project demonstrates what collaboration, expertise, and attention to detail can achieve.”
With the Mercedes-Benz Arocs now on duty, Alpha Recovery is poised to continue leading the UK recovery sector, combining cutting-edge technology with uncompromising operational excellence.
