Grosse Pointe, Michigan | July 17, 2025 — This August, the Monterey Jet Center Auction by Broad Arrow Auctions—officially a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company—will once again become ground zero for some of the most desirable collector vehicles in the world. Leading the charge is a peerless example of 1990s performance engineering: a 1998 RUF CTR 2 Sport, one of the most exclusive and extreme air-cooled Porsche-based supercars ever built. With an estimate of $3,000,000 to $3,500,000, the car is set to headline a remarkable offering of RUF Manufaktur and Porsche-derived performance machines at the two-day sale, taking place August 13–14, 2025.

The Crown Jewel: RUF CTR 2 Sport

Built upon the Porsche 993 chassis, the RUF CTR 2 debuted in 1995 as the spiritual successor to the legendary Yellowbird, and in many respects, it exceeded its predecessor’s already staggering performance. Its race-derived, twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six—developed from Porsche’s Group C 962 endurance racer—produced 580 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a RUF-tuned six-speed manual transmission and capable of a 0–60 mph sprint in just 3.6 seconds, the CTR 2 earned its place as the world’s fastest production car of its era with an estimated top speed of 217 mph.

Yet for RUF founder Alois Ruf, even that wasn’t enough. The CTR 2 Sport was conceived as a lighter, more track-focused evolution—street-legal but engineered with serious motorsport pedigree. Just 14 of the 29 total CTR 2s produced were built to Sport specification.

The example on offer—chassis no. W09BC0360WPR06007—is a true rarity among rarities. Originally commissioned by American collector and racer Frank Beddor, it is one of only four CTR 2 Sports specified with all-wheel drive. Finished in non-metallic Black over a black leather interior (later reimagined in full green leather by RUF following minor cosmetic repairs), the car remains a showcase of innovation, from its integrated roll cage and functional aerodynamic elements to its advanced Bilstein PSS10 suspension.

With just 16,679 miles recorded and a fresh service by RUF North America in July 2025, this one-of-a-kind machine epitomizes the CTR 2 Sport’s dual personality: devastatingly fast, yet engineered with remarkable road-going civility.

A Parade of Performance Icons

Joining the CTR 2 Sport at the auction are several headline-grabbing Porsche-based creations that blur the line between art, engineering, and high-speed performance:

  • 1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS – “Mame Commission”
    (Estimate: $2,900,000 – $3,200,000)
One of only 75 Dynamics and Lightweight Study (DLS) builds, the “Mame Commission” represents Singer Vehicle Design at its most uncompromising. Finished in Fluid Silver with a bespoke Olive Green Suede interior, this 964-based reimagination features a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing 500 horsepower—developed in partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering. With under 300 miles on the clock, this is a rare opportunity to own a near-new example of a modern-day icon.
  • 2011 RUF Rt Roadster
    (Estimate: $900,000 – $1,200,000)
A stunning one-off, the Rt Roadster is RUF’s 21st-century homage to the original soft-window Targa, reinterpreted on the bones of an Rt 12 S. Finished in Chroma Flash Hologram Matt over red leather, it features a 600-hp twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six, all-wheel drive, and a seven-speed DCT. Despite its bespoke nature, this future collectible has covered fewer than 7,000 miles.
  • 1987 Porsche 911 RUF Carrera 3.4 “Goldfinger”
    (Estimate: $850,000 – $1,100,000)
Commissioned in 2018 and completed by RUF, “Goldfinger” pays homage to the 1974 RSR with an unmistakably bold presence. Powered by a 3.4-liter air-cooled flat-six and finished in Lime Gold Metallic over a bespoke brown leather and Pepita Houndstooth interior, this car melds vintage aesthetics with modern RUF performance upgrades, including CTR-spec brakes and an integrated roll cage.

Setting the Stage for Monterey Car Week

Held in conjunction with Motorlux—the traditional curtain-raiser for Monterey Car Week—the Broad Arrow Monterey Jet Center Auction is poised to once again be a highlight for collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. With over 170 cars set to cross the runway-style auction stage, the 2025 event builds on the success of last year’s $71.5 million total and 85% sell-through rate.

“As demand for ultra-rare RUF and bespoke Porsche models continues to intensify, we’re proud to offer some of the best examples ever brought to auction,” says Alexander Weaver, Senior Car Specialist & VP of Private Sales at Broad Arrow. “The CTR 2 Sport, in particular, is a landmark car—an air-cooled legend that combines race-derived performance, exquisite rarity, and incredible craftsmanship. These are the cars that speak to a new generation of collectors.”
