The Hockenheim circuit in Germany played host to an exciting round 4 of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, showcasing the fierce competition and thrilling performances from various teams. Among the highlights was Philippe Prette, who demonstrated remarkable skill in his LP Racing Maserati GT2, achieving significant results in both races over the weekend.

Race 1: A Strong Performance
Starting from an impressive pole position, Prette initially relinquished the lead early in the race. However, his determination and strategic pit stop allowed him to recover brilliantly, ultimately crossing the finish line in second place overall. This outstanding performance secured him the Am class victory, marking his fourth win of the season. His results highlighted the competitive nature of the Maserati GT2, showcasing its prowess on the track.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Leroy, who entered Hockenheim as the leader of the Am standings, faced a challenging weekend. Despite his strong start, a 12-second penalty in Race 1 for exceeding the pit lane speed limit hindered his progress, leading to a disappointing fifth-place finish in both races.

Race 2: A Mixed Bag for Maserati
In Race 2, Prette started from the class pole but encountered difficulties early on, necessitating a return to the pits. Despite being distanced from the leaders, the entry of a safety car later in the race provided him with a chance to regroup. Ultimately, he managed to secure a third-place finish in the Am class, further solidifying his position in the overall standings.

The same could not be said for the Pro Am duo of Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini. After a difficult qualifying session that forced them to start from the back, their hopes of a strong finish in Race 1 were dashed by a contact that led to their retirement. However, they made a commendable recovery in Race 2, starting from the pit lane and finishing seventh overall, earning a fourth-place position in their class.

Looking Ahead
With the weekend concluding, the focus now shifts to the next event in the Fanatec GT2 European Series, which will take place at the historic Autodromo di Monza in Italy from September 20 to 22. This will be an exciting opportunity for teams and drivers to showcase their skills at one of the most iconic racing circuits in the world.

A Weekend Of Ups And Downs For Maserati At Hockenheim

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, expressed his satisfaction with the weekend’s results:
“Today was a positive day on the track with Maserati GT2: our car did well at Hockenheim, bringing home second place in Race 1. In every race, the Maserati GT2 always manages to maintain a regular presence in the top three, and our customers have a product that is competitive and can convey unique emotions.”

He further emphasized Maserati’s historic achievements in FIA GT championships, stating, “After our recent return to the track, we’re delighted that the Trident has become a leading name in every round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli 2024. We’re proud to offer teams and gentleman drivers a car that guarantees cutting-edge technologies, significant performance, and a unique, unmistakable driving style.”

As teams prepare for the summer break, the anticipation for the next race at Monza builds, promising more thrilling moments and fierce competition in the world of GT racing.
