The new Ford Figo product range offers something for everyone

Johannesburg, 15 July 2010 – The new Figo is available with a choice of two of Ford’s class-leading, fuel-efficient engines, the1.4ℓ Petrol Duratec and the 1.4ℓ Turbo Diesel Duratorq.  Both models are equipped with manual five-speed transmissions.

The 1.4ℓ Petrol Duratec has a maximum power output of 62kW @ 6000rpm and enjoys 127Nm of torque at 4000rpm, this equates to a frugal fuel consumption of 6.6ℓ/100km on the combined cycle and a CO2 emissions figure of 156g/km.

The 1.4ℓ Turbo Diesel Duratorq is just as impressive sporting 51kW @ 4000rpm and reaching its maximum torque peak of 160Nm at just 2000rpm. It uses just 5.3ℓ/100km on the combined cycle and emits 139g/km of CO2.

Customers can also choose between two trim levels, the Ambiente being the entry level option available in both petrol and diesel guise and the Trend, the high spec model, which is available in petrol configuration.

On the inside, Figo provides ample space and comfort with a well thought out ergonomic layout.

The instrumentation on both series includes a speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge. Included on all Figo models is a ‘distance to empty’ display. Warning lights for engine coolant, oil pressure and voltage are included in the cluster to alert the driver.

Also included are alerts for ‘door ajar’, ‘headlamps on’ and ‘seatbelts’ while the diesel model includes an alert for ‘water in fuel’.  All models include a 12-volt power socket to charge personal items, including cell phones and GPS navigation devices.

All models have a standard heater and air conditioning system. The air conditioning system, which includes one of the largest compressors in the class, is designed to provide excellent performance for a range of ambient temperatures ranging from -10 to 49 degrees Celsius.

The exterior driver and passenger side mirrors can be easily adjusted using the adjustment toggle located on the door while on the Trend model adjustment is power-assisted on both sides.

Safety is of the highest standard in the new Figo with dual front airbags included as standard fitment for both the passenger and driver on all models. Airbags are equipped with load limiting sensors and are designed to deploy depending on the severity of the vehicle impact.

While both the Ambiente and the Trend derivatives have central locking as standard, the Ambiente models have manual key operated central locking while the Trend models have remote keyless entry for extra security.  This feature allows drivers to automatically open all four doors.

Other features unique to the Trend range include: driver seat height adjustment, body colour exterior mirrors, front fog lamps, chrome finishes on the grille and the tailgate as well as a chrome bezel around the side repeater lamps. To complete its stylish looks, the Trend features 175/65 R14 alloy wheels.

All models enjoy first class entertainment with a standard AM/FM radio with CD/MP3 capability and Radio Data System (RDS).  RDS is a communications protocol standard that embeds small amounts of digital information in conventional FM broadcasts, including time, station identification and programme information.  RDS also includes an additional text feature that displays the track name.

A sensitivity setting on the radio allows stronger or weaker signals to be delivered at optimal range.  Speed-sensing volume is also standard.  This helps maintain the volume level of the radio based on external noises and speed.

Connectivity for iPods is included with an ‘Aux-in’ port located on the front fascia of the radio.

An equaliser function ideally sets the sound for different music genres, including jazz, pop, classic and rock.  Users can also adjust the bass, treble, balance and fader function as desired. Four speakers are included and are located in the door trim.

Both the petrol and diesel variants come with a 4-year /120 000km fully comprehensive warranty and 5-year corrosion warranty. Service intervals are set at 20 000km for petrol derivatives and 15 000km for diesel.
