The touring coaches operated by the German company “Fromm Reisen” cover a distance of some 1.6 million kilometres each year. The family-run company, based in the small Swabian town of Wain, has now updated and extended its fleet with its 75th vehicle to bear the Setra brand.

The milestone vehicle, a Setra TopClass 400 double-decker S 431 DT, was formally handed over to the company’s joint managing directors Sigrid, Alexander and Peter Fromm at a ceremony held at the Neu-Ulm Customer Centre, along with three further luxuriously equipped coaches, an S 415 HD, an S 416 HDH and an S 417 GT-HD.

All four vehicles are ideally equipped for any long journey with toilets, galley kitchens with fridges, seats that can be adjusted both fore/aft and sideways and are fitted with armrests as well as footrests, top-quality air-conditioning systems with auxiliary heaters and state-of-the-art multimedia systems. These luxury coaches also feature the very latest safety assistance systems that Setra has to offer. These include, amongst others, an adaptive cruise control system and the Front Collision Guard (FCG).

At the handover ceremony, to which the company had also invited 50 customers, managing director Alexander Fromm emphasised the benefits offered by the Ulm-based bus brand: “For us, it is extremely important to have a partner who can meet the high standards we expect for exclusive bus travel in a fast and reliable manner. With Setra, we are also pleased to be working with a brand from our own region of Germany whose ongoing efforts to develop innovative and trendsetting technical solutions never cease to impress us.”

Speaking also on behalf of his brother and sister, with whom he has shared the management of the company since 2000 as the third generation of their family to do so, the managing director listed the high resale value of the buses and the proximity of the EvoBus ServiceCenter in Neu-Ulm as further factors influencing the company’s purchasing decision. As Alexander Fromm said: “The positive feedback we so often get from our passengers also confirms to us that we have made the right choice”.

Fromm Reisen: high quality and low average age of buses

The company was established in 1929 by Otto Fromm senior, who started by transporting milk, gravel and other goods by truck. The inventive company boss soon moved on to fitting wooden benches onto the loading platform of his vehicle, so enabling him to operate passenger excursions. In 1965 the company’s management bought its first buses from the Ulm-based brand, in the form of an S 13 and two S 14 models from the Setra 10 series.

The steadily expanding bus operations were taken over in 1967 by his son Otto who, in turn, passed the responsibility on to his children Sigrid, Peter and Alexander in 2000. With a comprehensive range of services on offer covering the areas of regular-service buses, coach hire and holiday travel, the success of “Fromm Reisen” is built on three solid pillars. Along with its focus on comfort, safety and the very latest bus and coach engineering, the company also makes a point of keeping its fleet young. As Alexander Fromm also said: “We have 15 Setra coaches in all, with an average age of just two and a half years.”
