Isuzu KB
The Isuzu KB has a long and proud legacy in South Africa, and it was great to have the all-new sixth-generation model on the 2013 African Adventure.
It had only just been launched to the media, and the public were gaining their very first glimpse of the new General Motors contender in the fiercely competitive light commercial vehicle sector when the convoy set off from Continental Tyre South Africa in Port Elizabeth – the home of General Motors South Africa, and just down the road from the KB assembly plant in Struandale.
GMSA kindly supplied two KB300 D-TEQ 4×4 models for the trip, comprising the top-spec Double Cab LX, and the versatile Extended Cab LX. Its aggressive new design drew favour from most observers.
Both vehicles were used in support roles, with the double cab carrying all of the African Adventure’s Tentco tents, and the Extended Cab being loaded with water, fuel and firewood.
The KBs performed faultlessly over the entire 7 314 km route, with improved power delivery and enhanced comfort being noted as the major improvements over the previous model.
The new interior was also welcomed, with the crews appreciating the more sophisticated car-like design and greater functionality.
