Brescia, September 19, 2023 – Tuesday, October 10 will be the last day to enter for the fourth edition of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA, the 1000 Miglia-style event that will bring the Red Arrow to the Washington DC Area from October 31 to November 5. The event will be held with the support of the Italian Embassy in Washington and is organized in collaboration with Chopard, Vredestein Tires, the city of Middleburg and the Salamander Hotel & Resort.
The opening day on November 1 will be held at Summit Point Motorsports Park, a circuit that has hosted SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and IMSA races for several years, and will be entirely dedicated to a training session during which crews will learn the techniques of Italian regularity racing. From the following day, the Coppa Usa will begin, a competition of more than 500 Miles that will be divided into three legs, taking as its base the city of Middleburg, finishing in downtown Washington DC.
During the first leg, crews will travel about 300 kilometers, feasting their eyes on the endless vistas of Shenandoah National Park. Lunch will be held at Barboursville Vineyards, an enchanting estate in the historic Virginia countryside where the Zonin family has been cultivating imported Italian vines since 1976, enhancing their potential as only those with a two-hundred-year tradition could do. Barboursville Vineyards is also famous for the Palladio Restaurant, known as one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in America, and for the 1804 Inn and Cottage, a renowned place of refreshment and hospitality along Constitution Highway for more than two centuries. The second leg will return for a stretch on the Summit Point tarmac where an Average Trial and some Time Trials will be held. The last T.C., however, will be among the lawns of Beverly Equestrian, a horse training facility. The last day of the race will conclude in downtown Washington, D.C., and crews will have the opportunity to have lunch at the Congressional Country Club. Since the 1920s, the Club has been a gathering place for members of the government and businessmen. A family club with excellent golf, tennis, swimming, bowling and dining facilities since 1945, it has hosted three U.S. Opens and has been included in the list of the world’s top 25 clubs. The competitors will finally cross the finish line on Italian soil, at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC.
Crews will be divided into two categories, Veteran, if one of the two members has participated in a minimum of two 1000 Miglia races in the last ten editions, and Novice, if both crew members have participated in no more than one 1000 Miglia in the last ten.
There will also be two categories of cars allowed: the 1000 Miglia Era Car Class and the Post 1000 Miglia Era Car Class. The first will include both specimens and models that participated in the 1000 Miglia speed race (1927-1957), as well as those that were produced in the same time span and have significant historical and sporting value today. The second category, on the other hand, will group cars produced since 1958 including the Sportive, Gran Turismo or Super Cars in their original configuration.
