Sorrento, 2 April 2023 – The second edition of Sorrento Roads by 1000 Miglia, the format that between Friday 31 March and Sunday 2 April took the Red Arrow from the Gulf of Sorrento to the Gulf of Naples, through the immensity of the Royal Palace of Caserta and the steep cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, which among its citrus groves hides glimpses of unique beauty, made even more special by the colours of the sea and mountains.

The winners among the 35 participating crews in the overall classification were Alfonso Facchini and Luigia Olivetti on BMW 328 FROM 1938, securing the guarantee of admission to the Coppa delle Alpi 2024 and two Chopard watches 1000 Miglia Chronograph Sorrento Roads Edition. Guarantee of admission to the next 1000 Miglia winter race also to Giuseppe Nobis and Paola Mambrini, who were victorious in the 1 vs 1 challenges of the Trofeo Città di Sorrento in a 1960 Porsche 356 B 1600.

The convoy, always having its beating heart in the town of Sorrento, went around the Vesuvius National Park passing through the most evocative and envied places in Campania. The actual race took place on Friday 31 March, which saw the competitors test themselves with four blocks of Time Trials: the first on the south-eastern shore of the Gulf of Naples, the second in the majestic setting of the Royal Palace of Caserta valid for the Trofeo Cento Anni dell’Aeronautica Militare (also won by the crew Nobis-Membrini), the third on the Monti Lattari and finally the one at Priora on the return to Sorrento. The Passage Controls were instead in Maiori, marking the arrival on the Amalfi Coast, and in Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, between the bays of Naples and Salerno.

The second day began with the showing of the cars in Piazza Veniero, right in the centre of Sorrento. Their shiny liveries enriched the heart of the event, and a popular jury composed of citizens of Sorrento elected four of the best, awarding Ripamonti-Moroni with the 1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster and Peltemburg-Van Adrighem with the 1950 Glico Fiat 1100 Brachetta Fontana among the historic cars; the Ferrari 488 GTB from 2017 of Lombardi-Forni and the 2019 Ferrari Portofino of Corda-Azzoni were chosen among the modern cars.

In the second part of the morning, the citizens of Sorrento delighted the participants with local gastronomic and artistic excellence, also enjoying the beauty of the Correale Museum, and visiting a typical lemon house.

To round off the event, drivers and navigators returned to their cars to compete in the second edition of the Trofeo Città di Sorrento.

“We are happy to be back in Sorrento,” said Alberto Piantoni, CEO of 1000 Miglia, “and to have been able to propose for the second year running an experience with an all-Italian flavour that allowed participants to compete in places rich in beauty, warmth and hospitality.”

“We have brought a little bit of the 1000 Miglia away from the places usually visited by our Red Arrow,” emphasised 1000 Miglia President Beatrice Saottini, “I would like to thank the participants who have flocked to the event and the town of Sorrento, without whom it would not have been possible to realise a unique format that we care so much about.”
