Johannesburg – Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship and community upliftment through a meaningful partnership with its long-time conservation ally, the Owl Rescue Centre. In a bid to nurture a new generation of conservation-minded youth, TSAM is sponsoring the printing of 1,000 copies of Wild Adventures with Lazzy the Otter, a captivating children’s book penned by Danelle Murray, co-founder of the Owl Rescue Centre.
The literacy project forms a key pillar of the Centre’s school outreach programme, which delivers environmental education to learners across South Africa. By donating books to school libraries and distributing them to under-resourced communities, the initiative aims to instil curiosity, respect, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager for Marketing Communications at TSAM, emphasised the importance of such partnerships.
“Toyota South Africa Motors’ support underscores our commitment to corporate citizenship and environmental stewardship. We are proud to partner with Owl Rescue Centre on this literacy initiative as it aligns with our values of sustainability and community upliftment. Empowering young minds through storytelling is a powerful way to drive change.”

Through Lazzy’s adventures, young readers are introduced to the beauty and diversity of South Africa’s wildlife, while learning why its preservation is critical. The book’s vivid illustrations and engaging narrative are designed to spark a lifelong passion for nature in children.
Danelle Murray, author and co-founder of the Owl Rescue Centre, underscored the impact of the project:
“We believe education is the cornerstone of conservation. The impact of this sponsorship by Toyota South Africa Motors extends far beyond the pages of a book. For children in underprivileged communities, access to engaging educational resources can be limited. These 1,000 copies represent not just reading material, but an opportunity to learn, to dream, and to connect with the natural world that surrounds them – a world that often faces threats they will one day inherit.”
Well-regarded for its hands-on wildlife rehabilitation and community-based environmental education, the Owl Rescue Centre continues to develop innovative outreach initiatives that connect South Africans to the cause of conservation. This latest collaboration with TSAM marks a significant milestone in making environmental awareness accessible to all.
