The Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy (TGRJA) continued its charge toward national glory with another standout showing as the 2025 MSA South African Rotax MAX Challenge (SARMC) passed the halfway point at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit this past weekend. With national titles and coveted tickets to the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) on the line, the TGRJA drivers delivered a performance marked by dominance, resilience, and steady progress.
Coetzee Controls DD2 with Clinical Clean Sweep
In the ultra-competitive DD2 category, Jason Coetzee once again proved untouchable. The championship leader extended his grip on the title fight with a commanding clean sweep of all three heats at Vereeniging — his second such feat this season. With five wins from six starts, Coetzee’s speed and racecraft have positioned him as the firm favourite heading into the business end of the championship.
“Jason delivered another exceptional performance,” said team principal Leeroy Poulter. “His consistency and focus are exactly what we want to see at this stage of the season.”
Senior MAX: Swartz Hits Milestone, Lenaerts Fights Back
Senior MAX delivered some of the weekend’s most dramatic moments. Northern Regions Championship front-runner Kent Swartz converted pole position into a podium in Heat 1, before a nose-cone penalty in Heat 2 saw a deserved win demoted to fifth. Unfazed, Swartz came back strong to claim his maiden national heat victory in the final race, securing third overall for the round — a breakthrough result in his title campaign.
Meanwhile, Georgia Lenaerts displayed her trademark tenacity. After a solid seventh in the opening heat, she suffered a setback in Heat 2 due to a first-lap incident that dropped her to 17th. Yet she rallied with a spirited drive to 10th in the final, underscoring her grit and potential.

Junior MAX: Character-Building Weekend for Dowling and Shisinwana
Junior MAX brought mixed fortunes for Emma-Rose Dowling and Tshepang Shisinwana. Both drivers qualified well and ran strongly in Heat 1, with Dowling and Shisinwana crossing the line third and fourth, respectively. However, a post-race penalty dropped Shisinwana to eighth, and Dowling’s promising weekend was cut short by an early incident in the final.
Shisinwana, however, showcased strong racecraft to recover from sixth in Heat 2 and power through to a podium-worthy third in the final. His rebound highlighted the competitive depth and mental fortitude TGRJA cultivates in its drivers.
Mini MAX: Kaiyamo Twins Continue to Climb
In the ever-competitive Mini MAX division, Namibian twins Nande and Mandume Kaiyamo made notable strides. Nande carved his way from 14th to ninth in Heat 2, while Mandume delivered a top-10 finish in the same heat after a consistent start. Although both faced setbacks in the final — with Mandume retiring early — the weekend was a vital developmental milestone in their adaptation to the demands of South African national racing.
“The progress Nande and Mandume are making is exactly what the academy is about,” Poulter noted. “It’s a long-term journey, and they’re growing stronger every weekend.”
Eyes on iDube as the Championship Heats Up
As the championship heads to iDube Raceway for Round 3, the intensity continues to rise. With title races tightening and RMCGF qualification within reach, every session will matter. But with momentum on their side and a growing list of standout performances, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy is well-placed to capitalise on the opportunities ahead.
“We’re perfectly positioned for a strong run into the final two rounds,” concluded Poulter. “The drivers have shown incredible determination, and we’ll keep pushing for more wins and podiums.”
