Peugeot 208

“Agile, sensuous, athletic, intuitive, concentrated energy, generation jump” … these descriptions were included in the design brief for the new Peugeot 208 from the very beginning.

As the 208 proves, the styling team has indeed succeeded in expressing these core themes with coherence and credence. It provides Peugeot with a regenerated, sophisticated and highly appealing contender that clearly stands out from the compact hatchback crowd.

From the concise silhouette and the reduced overhangs to the fluid lines between bonnet and windscreen, the aesthetic codes that define Peugeot as a brand have been reinvented and reinvigorated.

The front aspect creates a true genetic signature, unveiling a new, particularly charismatic face. Its feline expression is more contemporary, rich and refined, endowing the compact hatchback with a distinct air of exclusivity.

The striking grille is modelled as a floating sculpture, seemingly detached from the bodywork. It is complemented by either aluminium grey or chrome surrounds and a honeycomb-style radiator grille that reinforces the modernity and richness of the design.

On the entry-level Access model, the black injected honeycomb grille is framed by an aluminium grey bead. A bright chrome bead is used on the higher-spec 208 Active, in addition to circular front fog lights with chrome trim.

The high-spec Allure derivative stands out with a high-gloss speckled finish for the grille, as well as bright chrome surrounds. In addition, an LED light guide and three LED daytime running lights incorporated in the headlamp emphasise the expression of the clusters, and impart a distinctive visual presence, both day and night.

Overall, the 208 has a sculpted wind-cheating shape. Above the grille, the brand name lettering is machined in a block, setting the tone for a longitudinal style line that extends along the bonnet’s centre line, bites into the top of the windscreen, leaves its mark in the centre of the roof and continues to the very end of the boot aperture.

The boomerang-shaped rear lamps are a further expression of the 208’s technological sophistication, and incorporate a unique light signature defined by three illuminated ‘claws’, in line with Peugeot’s long-established, feline-inspired styling cues.

The muscular, sculpted body sides of the five-door 208 are clearly evident in profile, and create a truly distinctive posture for the athletic hatch.

The doors feature a bold shoulder line running from the rear lamps towards the front, while the top-line line version gains an exclusive, upmarket edge with the use of gloss black window glazing, entirely surrounded by chrome – a first in this segment.

Steel rims with plastic wheel trims are standard in 15-inch size on the Access base model, switching to turbine-style seven-spoke alloys on the Active. The upmarket Allure derivative gains an added level of distinction with the fitment of double-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels as standard

The 208 is available in no less than 10 attractive colours, including the striking Oasis blue, which is limited to the range-topping Allure.
