OMODA South Africa hosted an exclusive soirée this week, offering a select group of high-profile guests a glimpse of its upcoming C9 luxury flagship model. The preview event, held at the prestigious Langhams Lifestyle Estate in Fourways, Johannesburg, was organised in collaboration with Absa, OMODA’s vehicle-finance partner and one of Africa’s largest diversified financial services groups.
The evening’s theme was nothing short of opulence, as the C9 was introduced in an environment reflecting its premium character. The gathering treated attendees to a champagne experience, complemented by roaming gourmet canapés and elegantly presented oysters, underscoring the C9’s promise of sophistication.
Guests in attendance included a host of South Africa’s A-list celebrities such as Khosi Nkosi, Dr Khanyile, Gogo Skhotheni, Khosi Twala, and Brian Temba, along with members of the media, government officials, and representatives from Absa. Visual artist Ramarutha Makoba also graced the occasion, playing a central role in a unique collaborative art experience. Attendees had the opportunity to leave their personal mark on a special canvas, which Makoba will soon transform into a one-of-a-kind artwork. This exclusive piece will be unveiled at the official launch of the OMODA C9 in October 2024 before being auctioned off for charity.

OMODA South Africa’s National Brand and Marketing Manager, Shannon Gahagan, emphasised the significance of the partnership with Makoba, drawing parallels between the artist’s creative prowess and the C9’s exceptional design. “Considering the new C9 is itself a true masterpiece of automotive design, our collaboration with an artist of Ramarutha’s stature is fitting. Of course, this initiative will also allow OMODA to give back to the community, with the proceeds of the artwork auction to be presented to a charity that will be announced at the C9’s launch,” Gahagan explained.
Charl Potgieter, Managing Executive at Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance, highlighted the depth of the partnership between Absa and OMODA, which extends beyond traditional vehicle financing. “Strengthening Absa’s position as the bank of choice in the automotive industry, our partnership with OMODA is a truly multifaceted one, as this evening’s event has demonstrated. We are delighted that our collaboration with OMODA is centred on making a meaningful contribution to the local economy, as we drive innovation and accessibility in South Africa’s fast-paced automotive financing sector,” Potgieter said.
The C9, OMODA’s flagship luxury SUV, is set to make its official market debut in October 2024. This new model stands out with its avant-garde exterior design, powerful engine, and luxurious interior, featuring amenities such as built-in seat massagers, a high-end audio system, and a dual-screen infotainment set-up. As a vehicle that promises to redefine the standards of luxury in the South African market, the C9 will undoubtedly command attention when more details of its extensive standard features are unveiled later this year.
