Following the introduction of the C5 Luxury X and Elegance X trims earlier this year, OMODA & JAECOO South Africa has turned its attention to the entry and mid-tier models in the C5 lineup. The result is a set of meaningful upgrades to both the Street and Style derivatives, delivering more power, improved efficiency, new transmission options and a more premium feature offering — all while retaining the accessible pricing that has become central to the C5’s appeal.

Street+: More Power, Better Efficiency, Same Attainable Price Point

The biggest leap forward comes from the new C5 Street+, which now produces 115 kW and 230 N.m, a significant increase over the previous 83 kW and 138 N.m output. This is courtesy of the familiar turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine used throughout the C5 portfolio, now tuned for notably stronger performance.

Despite the sizeable power bump, the Street+ is also more efficient, with fuel consumption dropping from 7.3L/100 km to 6.9L/100 km. The powertrain continues to send drive to the front wheels via a CVT transmission, offering two selectable driving modes — Eco and Sport — allowing drivers to adapt the vehicle’s responses to their environment.

Under the skin, the proven MacPherson front and torsion-beam rear suspension setup remains, while all-round disc brakes (with ventilated front rotors) ensure reassuring stopping power.

Although it serves as the entry point into the C5 lineup, the Street+ is anything but a stripped-down offering. Standard specification includes 17-inch alloy wheels, heated door mirrors, a black cloth interior, air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, a rear-view camera and cruise control. Keyless entry and push-button start further elevate day-to-day usability.

Inside, the infotainment system is a standout feature. A 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is fitted as standard, now paired with a six-speaker audio system for improved sound quality.

“OMODA continues to challenge expectations of what an entry-level crossover can offer,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager at OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “The Street+ delivers the same confident performance, comfort, and technology that define the C5 lineup, at a price that makes premium more accessible.”

Style X: Sharper Dynamics, Higher Tech and a More Premium Feel

Further up the range, the C5 Style has undergone a comprehensive refresh — one that aligns it aesthetically and technically with the recently updated Luxury X and Elegance X models. It now proudly adopts the Style X nameplate.

The most notable mechanical change is the shift from a CVT to a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This update delivers smoother and more decisive gear changes, alongside improved efficiency. Fuel consumption drops from 7.4L/100 km to 6.9L/100 km, matching the Street+, while acceleration improves significantly: the 0–100 km/h sprint now takes nine seconds, almost a full second quicker than before.

Drivers now also have access to three drive modes — Eco, Normal and Sport — enhancing the vehicle’s adaptability in different driving scenarios.

To further refine ride and handling, OMODA has replaced the previous torsion beam rear suspension with a multi-link setup, offering more controlled dynamics and a more composed feel on uneven surfaces.

The Style X also benefits from a series of comfort and convenience upgrades. Exterior enhancements include LED headlights, which offer both a more premium aesthetic and improved nighttime visibility. Inside, the Style X builds on the Street+ package with a leather-trimmed steering wheel, sports seats, and additional convenience features.

Practicality has also taken a step up, with cargo capacity increasing from 378 litres to 442 litres, or 1,149 litres with the second row folded flat — matching the packaging improvements introduced on the Luxury X and Elegance X grades.

“Building on the recently updated Luxury X and Elegance X models, the Style X represents the latest evolution of the C5 lineup,” Gahagan added. “OMODA is committed to continually refining its vehicles to deliver a more compelling package for South African drivers. The Style X bridges the gap between the Luxury X and Elegance X variants, offering the same style, performance, and practicality at a more accessible price point.”

Safety: Five-Star Peace of Mind

Safety continues to underpin the C5 story. Both the Street+ and Style X are equipped with ABS, EBD, an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), dual front and front side airbags, and ISOFIX anchor points. This builds on the model’s proven foundation: the OMODA C5 achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2022, earning an impressive 87% for both adult and child occupant protection.

Pricing and Warranty

The refreshed OMODA C5 lineup is priced as follows:

  • Street+: R339,900
  • Style X: R374,900
  • Luxury X: R425,900
  • Elegance X: R465,900

Both the Street+ and Style X come standard with:

  • A five-year/150,000 km factory warranty
  • A two-year/25,000 km service plan
  • OMODA’s ten-year/one-million-kilometre engine warranty, still one of the most generous in the industry
