Lexus is to collaborate on the production of a series of short films with The Weinstein Company, the multimedia production and distribution powerhouse that won eight Academy Awards this year.

Lexus approached The Weinstein Company to produce the five films, which are designed to inspire viewers in a way that compliments the new look and feel of the Lexus brand. Lexus is dedicated to surpassing customers’ expectations both in the luxury cars it builds and the luxury experience it offers its customers. This can be witnessed in the striking new designs and more engaging driving experience that feature in its new products.

Lexus chose the short film format as an expression of the future in cinematography. Each film will be developed by a different director, selected from the best new talent in the industry, and will represent a different part of the world and film-making genre. Lexus will demonstrate through the films how innovative, dynamic story-telling can challenge the imagination and reinforce the belief that life is an amazing experience.

Justin Tipping  is the first director to be recruited to the project, a recent graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory. He began his career directing and editing commercial and music videos that gained exposure on leading networks including MTV, VH1, FUSE and the Discovery Channel. His short film Nani was first screened in competition at the Berlin Film Festival, from where it went on to be shown at more than 40 festivals worldwide. Nani has won more than a dozen awards, including the Student Academy Award (narrative) and the Directors Guild of America Student Filmmaker Award.

Tipping’s directorial work at the AFI has also been recognised with the prestigious Franklin J. Schaffer Fellow Award and the Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award. He is currently represented as a writer and director by the United Talent Agency.

The names of the other four directors will be announced over the coming weeks on lexusshortfilms.com.

The Lexus Short Films series will have its premiere early in 2013. The films’ progress and production can be followed via the lexusshortfilms.com website.
