In April, Kia achieved a monumental milestone in the UK, selling its 1.5 millionth car—a fully electric EV6 ‘GT-Line S’ in Yacht Blue. This landmark event occurred at 9:35 am on Tuesday, 16 April at Norton Way GWR Kia in Brentford, London, marking a record-breaking month for the brand. The sale highlights Kia’s evolution since its UK debut in 1991 with the Pride, showcasing a stark contrast with today’s fully electric models characterized by cutting-edge performance and stylish design.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, commented on the achievement, stating, “This landmark achievement has been reached in record time and in yet another record-breaking month of sales, amplifying our continued success. This has in no small way been thanks to the continued efforts of our dealer partners and our multi award-winning electrified product lineup. In the coming months and years, we’re confident our growth will continue, with further customer-centric products and services arriving to exceed the expectations of our customers.”

April was not just about the EV6. Kia’s sales surged to 8,044 units, capturing a 6.0 percent market share and securing its position as the fifth best-selling brand for the month and fourth for the year. Eco-friendly vehicles were particularly influential, with hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric models comprising 50 percent of April’s sales. A new record was set for April with 1,882 hybrid sales and 2,092 plug-in vehicle sales, making Kia the third best-selling eco car brand of the month and second for the year.

The success extended across several vehicle segments, with the Sportage and Niro Compact SUVs, along with the Picanto City Car, leading the charge. The Sportage secured its spot as the sixth best-selling car in the UK for April and third for the year with remarkable figures, including a record-breaking month for Sportage PHEV sales. Meanwhile, the Niro, available in electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid models, continued to draw consumer interest, ranking as the ninth best-selling electric vehicle in April.

The Picanto, Kia’s entry-level A-segment city car, led its class with 1,148 units sold in April, showcasing its popularity and affordability as it enters the market with a fresh, striking design.

This outstanding performance follows Kia’s best quarterly sales record, reflecting the strong market demand for its innovative and eco-friendly model lineup. As Kia continues to expand its electrified offerings, the brand is set to maintain its upward trajectory, meeting and exceeding customer expectations with groundbreaking new products and services.
