Hyundai Motor Group is swiftly advancing its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, underscored by significant recognitions, including a series of victories at the World Car of the Year awards.
The Kia EV9 took center stage at the 2024 World Car Awards on March 27, securing the prestigious titles of 2024 World Car of the Year and 2024 World Electric Vehicle. Meanwhile, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N was celebrated as the 2024 World Performance Car.
This marks the third consecutive year the Group has dominated the World Car of the Year category, starting with the IONIQ 5 in 2022, the IONIQ 6 in 2023, and now the Kia EV9 in 2024. These award-winning models are built on the Group’s revolutionary Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), unveiled in 2020, which has set new benchmarks in the automotive sector.
With the Kia Telluride’s victory in 2020 included, the Group has amassed four World Car of the Year awards over the past decade, the most of any automotive group during this period.

Expanding its accolades beyond its home base, the Group has collected 66 awards from six different Car of the Year competitions across North America and Europe over the last ten years. Hyundai Motor alone has been honored for 28 of its models worldwide, while Kia has received accolades for 27 of its models. The luxury brand Genesis has also received recognition for its electric vehicles, including the GV60, GV70 EV, and G80 EV.
The IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models from Hyundai have been especially lauded, garnering 10 and six awards respectively. Kia has matched this success with 10 awards of its own, including for the EV9 and EV6.
The E-GMP platform is lauded for its flexible modular design and standardization, focusing on safety, innovative design, and advanced features such as multi (400/800V) rapid charging and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, delivering an unparalleled EV driving experience. The lineup includes the Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Kia EV6, Kia EV9, and Genesis GV60.
With plans to broaden its E-GMP-based EV range, the Group is also showcasing its dedication to electric innovation through the unveiling of concept vehicles like the Hyundai SEVEN at the 2021 AutoMobility LA, Kia’s Concept EV3 and EV4 at the 2023 Kia EV Day, and the Genesis Neolun Concept. These concepts hint at a vibrant future for the Group’s next-gen electric vehicles.
