The 2025 Dakar Rally continued its grueling journey on Stage 6, a 605-kilometer stretch from Hail to Al Duwadimi, blending rocky tracks with expansive dunes. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s Henk Lategan and co-driver Brett Cummings (#211) showcased their resilience, maintaining their overall lead despite intense competition and the relentless challenges of the desert.
Lategan and Cummings Stay Ahead
Lategan and Cummings completed Stage 6 in the 7th-fastest time, conceding 6 minutes and 36 seconds to the stage winners. A single puncture disrupted their rhythm, but the pair remains steadfast in the overall lead, holding a 7-minute, 16-second cushion over Yazeed Al Rajhi and Timo Gottschalk (#201). Lategan reflected on the day’s trials, stating, “It was our first real encounter with the dunes. Not our day to push, but we’ve set ourselves up well for the coming stages.”
Botterill and Murphy Shine Despite a Slip
Guy Botterill and Dennis Murphy (#205) delivered an exceptional performance, spending much of the stage in the lead. A minor navigational error in the final section cost them a potential stage victory, yet their efforts secured a commendable 4th place finish. Reflecting on their journey, Botterill remarked, “We pushed hard today and overtook many competitors. A small mistake at the end was costly, but overall, we’re happy with the pace.”

Mixed Fortunes Across the TGR Lineup
- Seth Quintero and Dennis Zenz (#204) opened the stage but struggled with their road position, finishing 12th, 13 minutes behind the leaders. Despite the setback, Quintero remained optimistic, citing better opportunities in subsequent stages.
- Saood Variawa and Francois Cazalet (#218) opted for caution amidst the rocky terrain, ultimately finishing 16th. The young duo is focused on gaining experience and finding their rhythm in the unforgiving desert.
- Giniel de Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz (#206) faced a grueling day as Von Zitzewitz sustained a neck injury mid-stage, forcing them to slow significantly. Their 21st-place finish keeps them in the Top 20 overall, but their progress depends on Von Zitzewitz’s recovery.
- Lucas Moraes and Armand Monleon (#203) endured a harrowing day. Suspension issues halted their progress early in the stage, leading to a near-three-hour delay. They slipped from 5th to 15th in the overall standings, a tough blow to their campaign.
Stage 6 Results and Key Standings
The stage was claimed by Guerlain Chicherit and Matthieu Baumel (#222) of the X-Raid Mini JCW Team, with a time of 4 hours, 34 minutes, and 49 seconds. In the overall rankings, Lategan and Cummings continue to lead, with Al Rajhi and Gottschalk in pursuit. The battle for podium positions remains fierce as the Dakar Rally enters its final week.
