Official figures announced by General Motors late in June reveal that the Corvette ZR1 is a machine of monstrous proportions. A blistering 0-100 km/h sprint of just 3.4 seconds, a top speed of 330km/h and a quarter mile time of 11.3 seconds should send the competition scurrying for cover.

These figures also mean that the ZR1 becomes the fastest production Corvette ever made. Significantly quicker than the blazing ZO6, the ZR1 is set to take its place among the super cars of the world, the only difference to its rivals being that it is far more affordable. In terms of performance though, it doesn’t give an inch away to its European counterparts.

“The ZR1 is an incredible machine by any measure,” said Ed Peper, North American Vice President, Chevrolet.” There’s simply no other vehicle in the world that does a better job of balancing performance, price and fuel economy.

The ZR1’s supercharged 6.2 Litre small-block engine has amazing torque to power the car seamlessly across the power band yet returns a relatively frugal 14 litres per 100km during city driving, amazing for a super car.

Although completely performance orientated as befitting its super car status, the ZR1 does have some luxury options such as heated, leather trimmed seats, side airbags, Bose premium audio system, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and chrome wheels to mention a few. Regretably the Corvette is not available in right hand drive for the South African market.
