Chery South Africa has recorded its strongest sales month of 2026 so far, delivering 2,462 vehicles in April as the brand continued a steady upward climb through the first four months of the year.
The latest figures mark Chery’s fourth consecutive month of growth in the local market, following sales of 2,258 units in January, 2,312 in February and 2,390 in March. By the end of April, the Chinese automaker had accumulated 9,422 sales year-to-date, with the Tiggo 4 Pro once again carrying the bulk of the momentum.
Like a well-fed arcade machine swallowing coins at terrifying speed, the Tiggo 4 Pro line-up dominated Chery’s monthly performance, recording 1,871 units in April alone. This means the model accounted for more than three-quarters of the brand’s total monthly sales.
The strong showing was further boosted by the recent arrival of the Tiggo Cross LiT derivative, positioned as a more accessible entry point into the Tiggo Cross range. Available with either a manual transmission or CVT, the new model is priced at R279,900 and R309,900 respectively.
Despite its more affordable positioning, the Tiggo Cross LiT retains a generous list of standard features, including LED headlights, heated side mirrors, a reverse camera and dual 10.25-inch digital displays. The infotainment system also supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Chery’s wider SUV range also contributed to the April result. The Tiggo 7 recorded 425 sales during the month, while the larger Tiggo 8 added 119 units. The flagship Tiggo 9 contributed a further 47 units.
“April was an excellent month for Chery South Africa, with nearly 2,500 vehicles sold last month,” said Jay Jay Botes, General Manager for Chery South Africa. “It’s a clear reflection of the strength of our Tiggo range. The Tiggo 4 Pro continues to be our key volume driver, and the introduction of the Tiggo Cross LiT derivative has added further momentum to an already strong performer.”
Over the first four months of 2026, the Tiggo 4 Pro line-up has accumulated 7,193 sales, underlining its importance within Chery’s local portfolio as demand for value-focused compact SUVs continues to grow in South Africa.
“Chery’s performance in April shows that the brand continues to build real traction in South Africa,” added Petersen. “Our focus remains on offering customers strong value, high specification levels and a model range that meets the needs of South African motorists. This includes our CSH hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, which form part of Chery’s continued expansion in the local market.”
The brand’s continued growth arrives during a period of economic pressure for many consumers, with rising living costs and fuel price volatility affecting the broader automotive sector. Yet Chery’s formula of high specification levels, competitive pricing and an expanding SUV range appears to be resonating strongly with local buyers.
