Toyota Dakar 2013

Glen Hall Talks about the toughest day for the Toyota Hilux team so far at the Dakar. Yesterday Giniel ended in Second place and today they have ended in 8th place when he and Dirk von Zitzewitz got lost in the dunes and unfortunately lost valuable time. The race is still on for Giniel de Villiers and the Toyota Hilux 2013 team and many people expect them to win the Dakar 2013 Rally.

Not only did Giniel De Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz had a bad day at the Dakar Rally but also team mates Duncan Vos and Rob Howie experienced the backlash of the Dakar Rally when they rolled the Toyota Hilux pick-up passing one of their competitors. As a direct result of the accident the Toyota Hilux pick-up roll cage got damaged and they had to pull out of the race.

This is especially sad when one consider that both Duncan Vos and Rob Howie are experienced Dakar Rally Drivers that have completed the Dakar rally in previous years ending in the top 10 Dakar Rally results.

Giniel De Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz are now the only remaining Toyota Imperial Dakar members in the Rally and they will need to focus on the days to come, and not allow the incident with Duncan Vos and Rob Howie affect their race. The Dakar Rally is not only the most toughest endurance Rally in the world but also mentally demanding and a distraction like the incident with the Toyota Dakar Team 2 might have an influence on Giniel De Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz having all the pressure on them to perform well in the Dakar Rally.

Toyota Gazoo Racing SA Flies the GR Flag High

From the first light over the bivouac to the final sprint across the timing beam, Dakar has a way of stripping motorsport down to its rawest elements. It is not just a race against the clock, but a sustained negotiation with heat, fatigue, navigation errors and terrain that seems actively opposed to human ambition. In […]
