In the realm of cinematic and automotive history, few vehicles can claim the iconic status of the Aston Martin Vanquish, a car synonymous with British elegance, power, and, of course, the world’s most famous spy—James Bond. This particular Vanquish, used by Pierce Brosnan and EON Productions to promote the 2002 Bond film Die Another Day, is now up for auction, offering an extraordinary opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of movie and motoring history.
Scheduled to go under the hammer with H&H Classics on Wednesday, October 9th, at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, this V12-powered grand tourer is not just any Aston Martin. Estimated to fetch between £50,000 and £70,000, the car holds a unique place in both Bond and automotive lore. It was the lead vehicle in a parade marking the opening of the M6 Toll road in 2003, a fitting debut for a car that embodies both speed and prestige.
The Vanquish in question, bearing the registration ‘Y834 MWL’, began its life as one of seven models retained by Aston Martin for press duties. By the time it arrived at Pinewood Studios for a photoshoot with Pierce Brosnan, it had already graced the pages of various publications. The car was selected for its striking Tungsten Silver paint, complemented by Charcoal leather and an aluminium centre console—mirroring the hero cars used in the film itself.

Die Another Day, a landmark in the James Bond franchise, not only saw the return of Aston Martin as Bond’s car of choice but also starred Halle Berry, with a title song performed by Madonna, who made a cameo appearance. The collaboration between Aston Martin and EON Productions, re-forged with this film, has since ensured that the British marque remains the definitive vehicle for the world’s most famous spy.
The Vanquish has also borne the license plate ‘M16 SPY’—a playful nod to its cinematic pedigree—and has been a cherished part of a prominent collection for over 20 years, amassing just 37,800 miles during that time. Its interior, a blend of state-of-the-art technology and traditional craftsmanship, remains as alluring today as it was when the model first debuted.
James McWilliam, Sales Manager at H&H Classics, commented, “Our October auction offers a fantastic opportunity to own a slice of movie and motoring history with this stunning Aston Martin Vanquish. Not only was it used at Pinewood Studios for photoshoots with Pierce Brosnan for Die Another Day, but it was also the first car to drive down the M6 Toll road to commemorate its opening. Additionally, as well as the close connection to James Bond and Pierce Brosnan, who himself owned a 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, the car is also a superb example of the marque’s last hand-built grand tourer.”
The enduring allure of this particular Vanquish is not just in its role as a cinematic icon but also in its embodiment of Aston Martin’s legacy as a maker of finely crafted, high-performance vehicles. As the gavel prepares to fall, this auction represents a rare chance to acquire a piece of history that merges the glamour of the silver screen with the precision engineering of one of Britain’s most revered automotive brands.
