The RFS Magalies 400 will mark an exciting end to the 2008 National Absa Off Road Championship. Only four points separate three championship hopefuls, with Team Ford Racing’s Neil Woolridge and Kenny Skjoldhammer heading the title battle.
The Ford crew has had an impeccable run this season finishing on the podium at every event this season. Their consistency now sees them go head to head with Hannes Grobler / Juan Mohr and Duncan Vos / Ralph Pitchford in a three-way battle for the ultimate laurels.
“It’s extremely close with just a handful of points separating the top three crews,” explains WoolrIdge. “There’s absolutely no room for error. The slightest mishap could spell the end to our championship aspirations, having said that we’ve had an outstanding season thus far, we’ve had no mechanical difficulties and we’re confident that the Ford Ranger will continue to do us proud.”
“We’ve been one of the more reliable crews and ironically our consistency allows the other crews to close the gap as they can drop a non-points scoring round. We therefore, won’t be able to take it easy, every last point will be needed in order to secure victory and we’ll be going all out to ensure that happens.”
Ford team-mates Mark Ferguson and Craig West in the sister SP Ford Ranger will miss the final round of the season.
Ferguson is recovering after an incident on the previous round which left him with compressed and fractured vertebra. The pair hit a donga and although West was unscathed the severity of the impact has left Ferguson out of action.
“We’re sad to miss out on the final round of the season but we wish Neil, Kenny and privateers Kobus and Riaan in their Unifreight Ford Ranger SP the best of luck and hope to see them returning with the silverware,” says Ferguson.
The whole team is optimistic ahead of the final round,” continues Woolridge. “We know what we have to do and we are eager to get behind the wheel and fly the Blue Oval flag for Ford.”
