Investchem Formula Ford – Kyalami – 03 November
Driving the Ford Credit Mygale, Tasmin Pepper put in a superb drive at the final Investchem Formula Ford championship event of the year at Kyalami on Saturday (03 Nov).
The quietly spoken 17-year-old Midrand resident who attends Cornwall Hill College in Centurion showed great maturity as she had to overcome a troublesome qualifying session and make up a lot of ground.
An electrical problem saw her car misfire its way through practice and as a result she could only secure a seventh place slot on the grid. “It had a misfire at the top end of the revs so wouldn’t rev, so I had to drive at ¾ throttle,” she explained.
Following a cautious start in the opening race where she took no risks on while the pack was bunched on the often fraught first lap, she started moving up the order on lap two and by the third lap she was up to fourth place.
With a clear head she slipped passed Gerard Peters in a decisive move on the final lap to claim third place.
Race two was similar as again she fought hard with Peters, and again got the better of him, this time passing him shortly before half distance and then held him off until the chequered flag.
With two third places to her name she was credited with second overall for the day, her best result of the season.
