Forging a reputation for reliable motoring, an involving drive, inspiring performance and excellent safety, the all-new fourth-generation Subaru Forester builds on the solid foundation laid by previous generation models, culminating in the smartest, safest and most efficientSubaru Forester to date – each aspect being a development goal undertaken for the newSubaru Forester, along with making improvements to theSubaru Forester’s user-friendly utilities, stress-free driving environment and fun-to-drive characteristics; to maximise its value as a true SUV.

The all-newSubaru Forester’s introduction to South Africa comes relatively soon on the back of successful launches in other markets including in Japan, where the newSubaru Forester has been setting new records in many respects including unprecedented sales volumes for Subaru in Japan.

Following Subaru’s brand statement of ‘Confidence in Motion’, the all-newSubaru Forester embodies the brand’s directive of providing products which are in harmony with customer lifestyles and values through engineering excellence, enjoyment and peace of mind.

NEWSubaru Forester is the best yet

The all-new Subaru Forester is going where it’s never been before, using the same legendary DNA of its predecessors with even more luxury, refinement, innovative technologies and cutting-edge safety to create ‘the best, now even better’. With Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive™ and legendary Boxer® engines for optimum grip, balance and control in all conditions as well as advanced off-road capability, the newest generation adds to the legend that is the Subaru Forester.

With evolutionary styling and an adaptation of Subaru’s latest family look, the all-newSubaru Forester not only looks like a Subaru but is unmistakably aSubaru Forester. Its menacing stance – aided by large attractive wheels, a high ride height and an expertly-sculpted body – imparts the typical sense of superiority and control one expects from aSubaru Forester, now in ultra-modern form and at the pinnacle of Japanese design, style and technology. The all-new interior too, is an extension of modern Subaru design with a focus on space, comfort, luxury and versatility – designed around the occupants with exceptional build quality, fit and finish.

NewSubaru Forester is SMARTER

With a host of new technologies on board, the newSubaru Forester is not only the smartestSubaru Forester yet but it goes further to integrating with its driver to create the ultimate man-machine balance.

New Multi-Function Displays (including a full-colour interface), Automatic Stop Start engine technology, state-of-the-art Lineartronic™ CVT transmissions, a powered rear tailgate, smart keyless entry and push-button starting, Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) and paddle-shift control for selected CVT models are but a few examples of how the newSubaru Forester works not only to integrate itself into the driver’s psyche – making the driving experience easier – but also into the environment.

NewSubaru Forester is SAFER

Following its world premiere in 2012 at the Tokyo Motor Show, the all-newSubaru Forester headed straight into a wealth of accolades and awards. Most importantly, the newSubaru Forester’s safety ratings have gone to show that not only does the it continue Subaru’s legendary reputation for building exceptionally safe vehicles, but that the newSubaru Forester is also one of the safest vehicles in the world.

On the back of its five-star Australian ANCAP rating earlier in 2012, the announcement that theSubaru Forester was awarded five stars by industry safety giant Euro NCAP was a fantastic moment in the build-up to the new model’s release in international markets. Furthermore, the newSubaru Forester scored the highest possible marks for SUVs in 2012 Euro NCAP crash tests, with maximum-possible marks achieved in a side barrier test and for pedestrian leg protection.

Such an achievement comes as no surprise thanks to the newSubaru Forester’s arsenal of active and passive safety equipment, including Subaru’s Ring-Shaped Reinforcement™, a reversing camera, VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) which includes a host of electronic safety aids, seven airbags and a collapsible brake pedal and steering column.

NewSubaru Forester goes FURTHER

Going further in the new Subaru Forester is two-fold. With fuel-saving technologies like the latest-generation Boxer® engines, SI-DRIVE and Automatic Stop Start on board, the newSubaru Forester is more economical and more efficient than ever before. Going further on a tank also means you can go further off the beaten track, and with features like 220 mm ground clearance, excellent critical angles, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive™ and the new X-Mode on Lineartronic™ models, going further with the newSubaru Forester’s increased off-road functionality is easy and needs to be experienced to be believed. X-Mode makes navigating slippery surfaces and steep hills easier, with enhanced off-road ability and hill descent control available at the flip of a switch.

A new Subaru Forester for everyone

The all-new Subaru Forester is available in South Africa as a range of five new models. The range starts with the new 2.0 X, powered by a normally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder Boxer® petrol engine, producing 110 kW at 6 200 rpm and 198 Nm at 4 200 rpm. This engine allows the entry level model to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 10.6 seconds and top out at a respectable 190 km/h. With low carbon emissions of 168 g/km, combined average fuel economy of 7.2-litres per 100 km as well as Automatic Start Stop technology, the newSubaru Forester 2.0 X, with its six-speed manual gearbox, is the perfect introductory model for the all-newSubaru Forester range in South Africa and, despite being the base model, still comes with added-value extras fitted as standard, including the Multi-Function Display with reversing camera and a multi-function steering wheel.

Benefitting from a larger engine – a normally-aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder Boxer® petrol unit which produces 126 kW at 5 800 rpm and 235 Nm at 4 100 rpm – the following three models, which are spread over X, XS and XS Premium trim levels, add further bolstering to the newSubaru Forester range with added value and specification. All 2.5-litre models also feature Lineartronic™ CVT transmissions, resulting in the addition of X-Mode and two-mode SI-Drive to the list of standard features. Performance figures from the 2.5-litre Lineartronic™ models is admirable, with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 9.9 seconds met by a top speed of 196 km/h. Combined average fuel economy is also impressive at 8.1-litres per 100 km, with carbon emissions of 187 g/km.

The new 2.5 X Lineartronic™ variant introduces the larger-engined models, followed by the 2.5 XS Lineartronic™ which brings with it paddle shift control, alloy wheels, an electric driver’s seat, and HID headlamps. The newSubaru Forester 2.5 XS Premium Lineartronic™ gains luxurious extras including a double-volume sunroof and leather upholstery, along with automatic lights and wipers, keyless entry and starting and a one-touch powered tailgate with remote control and an adjustable height setting.

Topping the newSubaru Forester range in South Africa is the all-newSubaru Forester 2.0 XT Lineartronic™. Powered by a 177 kW (at 5 600 rpm) and 350 Nm (between 2 400 and 3 600 rpm) direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer® petrol engine, the 2.0 XT Lineartronic™ brings exceptional and typically Subaru performance to theSubaru Forester range. The 0-100 km/h dash is completed in just 7.5 seconds and top speed is seen at 210 km/h. Despite the extra performance, fuel economy remains impressive at just 8.5-litres per 100 km on the combine average cycle, with carbon emissions of 197 g/km. Without the assistance of Automatic Start Stop technology, theSubaru Forester 2.0 XT is still exceptionally efficient. The 2.0 XT Lineartronic™ model’s angelic performance is of course also matched by enhanced specification, with 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a sports front bumper with chrome accents and three modes for SI-DRIVE joining the already comprehensive list of standard equipment.

Another Subaru hallmark is exceptional handling and, thanks to the drivetrain’s symmetrical layout, the engine’s low-down positioning (which lowers the car’s centre of gravity) and the employment of four-wheel independent suspension on all models, the newSubaru Forester continues the Subaru tradition of excellent levels of grip, balance and control. Not only is handling enhanced but ride comfort is also improved, the independent layout with a double wishbone design at the rear taming the harshest of road surfaces. The setup has been designed to react to bumps and undulations without upsetting theSubaru Forester’s composure while being fine-tuned to maintain sharp control, allowing the driver to take on the road’s challenges with confidence.

In keeping with the newSubaru Forester’s exceptional safety credentials, there has been no compromise on safety equipment on any derivative, with even the entry-level 2.0 X featuring a full list of standard safety equipment. The entireSubaru Forester line-up benefits from seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), ISOFIX child seat mounts with tether anchors and Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), which encompasses ABS, EBD, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), TCS (Traction Control System), LSD (Limited Slip Device) and BA (Brake Assist).

The all-newSubaru Forester range is now available in eight striking new colours through Subaru Southern Africa’s dealer network, all models coming standard with a 3-year/ 75 000 km maintenance plan, a 3-year/ 100 000 km warranty and Subaru Assist. Various maintenance plan extension packages are optionally available at extra cost.
