Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s response

  • Ford Ranger March sales sets an all-time record for FMCSA
  • Ford Ranger has broken the previous export sales record
  • Ford Figo claims Top 4 passenger car spot with 1 313 units

FordPRETORIA, South Africa, 03 April, 2012 – Ford dealers enjoyed bullish March sales results with massive penetration of Figo and Ranger units through their floors.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s (FMCSA) has set an all-time record with the delivery of the new Ranger. The new Ford Ranger delivered 1 753 units in March, 99% of them retailed through the dealer network. “The all-new Ranger boasted its highest sales month in South Africa and another all-time record including exports with a total of 4123,” said FMCSA’s Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service, Dean Stoneley.

Equally strong demand was once again experienced for the Ford Figo, 1 313 units delivered in March in a South African passenger car market that grew 4% from March last year.

“We are able to better-supply the huge demand for Ranger now and expect consistent customer delivery in the coming months. It has obviously allowed massive growth for our LCV sales (148,8% over February) but importantly, the vast majority of units have been delivered directly to owners through dealers,” said Stoneley.

According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa), the SA new vehicle market grew 1,7% over February, but was 0,9% down on March 2011. This comprised passenger car market growth, but was thwarted by Light Commercial Vehicle sales, which were 7,75% down on the same month last year.

The total market ended March on 56 110 units.

“FMCSA will now sustain LCV sales performance for the remainder of the year as production continues to be optimised,” said Stoneley. “We also expect our passenger car sales to show stimulus in April and May thanks to special retail offers.”
