Audi unveils Q5 SUV and Sportback plug-in hybrids with up to 62 miles of electric range, intelligent hybrid systems, and advanced comfort and connectivity features
Ingolstadt / San José Chiapa, June 11, 2025 – Audi is accelerating its push into electrified mobility with the introduction of the Q5 SUV and Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro models, expanding the latest Q5 family beyond combustion and mild-hybrid offerings. These plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) boast a robust system output of 299PS (220kW), significantly enhanced battery technology, and up to 62 miles of zero-emissions range—making them among the most capable and practical premium hybrids in the mid-size SUV segment.
The new PHEV models are now available to order in the UK, with first customer deliveries expected in September. Pricing begins at £56,740 (OTR) for the Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro, while the Sportback variant starts at £59,240 (OTR).
Electrified Performance with quattro Confidence
At the heart of the new Q5 e-hybrid models is a finely balanced powertrain that blends a 2.0 TFSI engine (251PS) with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor delivering 129PS. Together, they produce a seamless 299PS and 450Nm of torque—enough to launch from 0–62mph in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph. This is paired with Audi’s acclaimed seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro ultra all-wheel drive, delivering confident grip and responsiveness in all conditions.
The result is a powertrain that doesn’t just impress with speed, but with sophistication—offering dynamic performance without compromising on efficiency.
Extended Electric Range and Rapid Charging
Audi has significantly re-engineered the high-voltage battery in the Q5 PHEV. The new unit offers a 25.9kWh gross capacity (20.7kWh net), representing a 45% increase over the previous generation. Thanks to an upgraded cell-to-pack architecture and improved energy density, drivers can enjoy up to 62 miles of electric-only range—ideal for urban commuting and short trips without a drop of petrol.
Charging is equally future-focused: with a three-phase 11kW onboard charger, the battery can be replenished in as little as 2.5 hours using a compatible AC source. Audi includes a mode 3 charging cable (Type 2) as standard, and its “Audi charging” network offers access to thousands of public AC points across 28 European countries.
Intelligent Hybrid Management
Efficiency is maximised through a sophisticated hybrid management system that dynamically chooses between electric, hybrid, and recuperative modes based on route data, driving style, and battery state. In EV mode, the vehicle runs purely on electric power; hybrid mode balances engine and motor use, conserving battery for urban or stop-start phases of a journey. A new slider in the MMI allows drivers to manually select a desired battery charge level for greater control.
Energy recuperation has been significantly improved in this generation. Up to 88kW of power can be recovered during deceleration and braking, thanks to predictive systems that factor in navigation data, speed limits, and traffic ahead. Steering-wheel paddles allow the driver to adjust regenerative braking across three levels, enhancing control and efficiency.

Design, Comfort, and Everyday Practicality
As part of the latest Q5 family, the e-hybrid models offer refined design updates, including a more dynamic silhouette, LED headlights plus LED rear lights pro, and standard S sport suspension. Inside, they provide the high levels of practicality and comfort expected of an Audi SUV.
Both the SUV and Sportback come with a fully adjustable rear seat bench plus, which slides fore and aft and allows the backrest angle to be changed. This provides flexibility between passenger comfort and boot space: 438 litres in the SUV (433 in the Sportback), expanding to 1,358 litres and 1,300 litres respectively with seats folded.
Cabin tech is equally advanced, with MMI experience plus as standard, integrating the Audi Application Store, smartphone interface, and Audi sound system. New USB-C ports (up to 100W in the rear) support fast charging for laptops and larger devices, while a cooled inductive smartphone charging tray with 15W output enhances day-to-day usability.
Pioneering Battery Architecture
The new high-voltage battery represents one of the most notable technical achievements in the Q5 e-hybrid. With prismatic cells arranged in a two-tier cell-to-pack structure, it enables higher energy output while saving space. Each of the 102 cells stores approximately 46% more energy than its predecessor and uses advanced cell chemistry for improved performance at lower charge levels and in colder temperatures.
This packaging innovation also contributes to the car’s balanced weight distribution and refined handling, maintaining Audi’s high standards for dynamic driving characteristics.
A New Chapter for the Audi Q5
With the launch of the Q5 SUV and Sportback e-hybrid quattro, Audi sets a new benchmark in the premium mid-size segment—blending efficiency, intelligent design, and dynamic performance in a way that few competitors can match. Whether it’s the daily commute, long weekend escapes, or navigating urban congestion zones, these new plug-in hybrids offer an elegant and efficient solution that feels every bit as premium as it performs.
