From 1992 through 2007, Alfa Romeo carved its name into the annals of motorsport history, achieving dominance in the Touring class with its formidable 155 and 156 models. The journey began under the iconic Alfa Corse, revamped and led by Giorgio Pianta and later by the Nordauto/N-Technology team, whose brilliant engineering transformed these vehicles into champions on the track.
Alfa Romeo’s racing saga saw a myriad of championship victories across Italy, Germany, the UK, and Spain. The series started with a bang in 1992, when Nicola Larini clinched the Italian Superturismo Championship in the 155 GTA. The following year, the 155 V6 TI astonished the German DTM series by outperforming local competitors, setting a precedent of excellence. This winning streak continued with the 156 model, which secured 13 championships over a decade, impressively claiming victory in its final race in 2007, long after production had ceased.

The tale of these remarkable seasons will be unfurled at a special Backstage lecture at the Alfa Romeo Museum, taking place in the Giulia Hall on Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m. This event promises to be a nostalgic journey led by Lorenzo Ardizio, the museum’s curator, and Sergio Remondino, historian and co-author with Sergio Limone. Attendees will delve into the thrilling stories and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from influential figures such as Fabrizio Giovanardi, Giorgio Francia, Gabriele Tarquini, and Monica Bregoli, who were pivotal to Alfa Romeo’s success.
Moreover, the event will coincide with the official unveiling of the book “Alfa Romeo 155 e 156: DTM, Superturismo e Super 2000,” which documents these cars’ illustrious histories. Visitors to the museum can also enjoy a free admission to the lecture and a celebratory parade on the museum’s track at 2:30 p.m., paying homage to the legacy of Alfa Romeo in motorsport.
