Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is unveiling a revolutionary update to their iconic camper van, the New California, now built on the advanced long-wheelbase Multivan platform. This next-generation model enhances every aspect of its design, offering more space, intelligence, sophistication, versatility, and sustainability than ever before.

The New California sets a new standard with dual sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle, a feature previously limited to certain versions. This change significantly boosts the van’s functionality, allowing for easy access and more flexible use. Notably, this model is the first to include a plug-in hybrid drive combined with an all-wheel-drive system, enabling it to function temporarily as an electric vehicle while still promising extended range capabilities.

Customers can choose from five distinct versions of the New California—Beach, Beach Tour, Beach Camper, Coast, and Ocean—all equipped with a standard pop-up roof. The versatility extends inside with a redesigned interior that includes removable individual rear seats and new storage solutions, making it ideal for a variety of lifestyles and adventures.

Digital enhancements include the ability to control camper functions through a dedicated display in the living area, the infotainment system in the car, or remotely via a smartphone app. This integration ensures that all aspects of the camper experience are at the user’s fingertips, from managing the pop-up roof and interior lighting to monitoring water levels and battery status.

Volkswagen’s commitment to innovation is also reflected in the camper’s safety features, with the New California benefiting from the modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform, which supports a wide range of driver assistance systems. These advancements improve both safety and comfort, particularly on long journeys.

The New California not only continues the legacy of its predecessors but also enhances the concept of the camper van, making it a perfect choice for everyday use and extraordinary journeys alike. Pre-sales are set to begin in June, promising a new chapter for this beloved model.
