Volkswagen Motorsport Poised For Victory At Zwartkops

Johannesburg, 13 May 2024 – As Volkswagen Motorsport heads to Zwartkops Raceway for the third round of the National Championship Extreme Festival in Pretoria on Saturday, 18 May, the team is firmly in the driver’s seat.

In the SATC SupaCup championship, seasoned driver Jonathan Mogotsi and 2023 Polo Cup champion and SupaCup rookie Charl Michael Visser are separated by a mere point at the top of the leaderboard. Meanwhile, Rookie Cup champion Kyle Visser stands fifth overall in the Astron Energy Polo Cup, leading all rookies.

“We’ve had an outstanding start to the season, capped off with a celebratory win at the Simola Hillclimb last weekend,” said Mike Rowe, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “Now, we’re back to business and eagerly anticipating the Zwartkops Extreme Festival.”

The team’s strong start at Killarney and Kyalami has set high expectations, with Mogotsi and Charl Michael’s SupaPolos dominating the SATC SupaCup, and young Kyle Visser making an impressive showing in the Astron Energy Polo Cup. “We’re a cohesive team, ready to continue our winning streak,” Rowe added.

Jonathan Mogotsi, who leads the championship by just one point, remains unfazed. “Normally, leading by a single point is stressful,” he said. “But with my teammate Charl Michael right behind me, I’m at ease. We’re looking forward to maintaining our class dominance at Zwartkops.”

Charl Michael Visser expressed his excitement about his strong position in the SATC SupaCup championship. “Winning the Polo Cup title and racing for three years has been invaluable, but having a fantastic team has made my rookie year in SupaCup extraordinary. Let’s continue this momentum, Jonathan!”

Rookie Kyle Visser reflected on his year in the Astron Energy Polo Cup. “2024 has been a learning curve, but my results at Killarney and Kyalami have been fantastic. Zwartkops is always dramatic, so I aim to stay out of trouble and focus on pace and consistency. With my supportive team, I can’t wait to race in Pretoria.”

Mike Rowe concluded, “Zwartkops always promises action and drama. I wish our team the best of luck this weekend. It’s a great opportunity for fans to witness top-tier racing up close. See you at Zwartkops!”
